Can't help you on airlines, I flew AS
non-stop from SEA
and back on a 734 and 73G. But a word of advice. If you want a good restaurant that is cheap
by comparision to the others, find Victor's place. It is located in Marina Vallarta (the touristy area where all the hotels are). It's located actually at the Marina where all the boats are, so just a few blocks inland from the beach. It's one of those places located on the boardwalk surrounding the Marina.
Anyway, the food is great. The drinks are solid. And it is a FRACTION of the cost of the surrounding places. It's (pricewise) on-par with the places in Old (Downtown) Vallarta. Seriously. Lunch or dinner is about 40-45 pesos, breakfast is about 35 pesos. Cervezas (Pacifico) are only 10 pesos, and every drink you order comes with a free shot of the house tequila. A shot and a beer for only a buck! It's complete crap tequila, but when it's free, who's to complain? So you figure dinner and 4, 5, or 6 rounds of drinks; you're fed and drunk for less then 100 pesos ($10)! You can't beat that anywhere...
As far as hotels go, we stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna, which was pretty nice; though you can get more value for your dollar. My brother and his (now) wife stayed at the Mayan Palace and got a 2-room suite for the same price as our standard room at the Marriott. Plus their pool facilities and whatnot were way better.
If you have any other questions about Puerto Vallarta, let me know and I'll be more then happy to help however I can. PVR
is by far my favorite city in Mexico! Though the airport itself is crap...
