Your Best Deals, The Cheapest Tickets?

Mon Oct 17, 2005 1:56 pm

Today I booked my cheapest long-haul ticket for years: HEL-BKK on Finnair, 499 euros (600$?) return, not bad for 10h flight.

Last year I flew DUB-MAN for 20 euros one way on Ryanair.

Two steals:

SOU-EDI-SOU day return on BA, 64 GBP.

Cheapest ticket I've bought, got access to BA lounges at both ends and even got a diversion to BHX chucked in on the way home.

Editted to say:
Wrote a trip report on it! Quest For £100 Note: BA SOU-EDI-(SOU)BHX (w/ Pics) (by Fbgdavidson Jul 28 2005 in Trip Reports)

Also booked LGW-DUB-LGW on BA for 97 GBP only 6hrs before the flights themselves! Probably drunk more than that in alcohol in the lounges at either end  Wink

2002: r/t TXL-ZRH-DEL with SWISS - for free. The company I booked it through never took the money off the credit card.

My cheapest was flying with Great Western from Adelaide to Kingscote for AU$25 each way.
I wrote a Trip Report for that flight. http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/47499/6/

Other than FF flights we are assuming (have got 3 long flights within the USA on FF points).
Back in 1982, I purchased a flight on CO EWR-DEN-EWR (on a DC-10, into old Stapleton Airport, purchased the ticket at a city office in the lobby of WTC 2). Never got the billing of it on my credit card (AMEX). Must be somebody screwed up the billing, no problems on the flights.
Several times >$300-350 R/T (w/taxesJ FK or EWR - LHR on VS, BA, UA)
Several times > $ 220 r/t EWR/Florida in the 1980's + 90's (PEX, UA, EA, TW)
DTW-LGA $125 w/taxes+fees, purchased the night before, NW, on a 757 (for work assignment)
Back in the 1980's > $250 r/t transcon EWR-LAX

A few of my best deals:

AMS-ZRH-AMS (KL/m-class) Hfl 65,= , about €30,= . I only paid the airport tax; the ticket itself was paid with points (airmiles) I got for filling up my car at Shell gasstations.

AMS-STN-AMS (KL/m-class) Hfl 80,=, about €36,=, again only airport tax; ticket paid by my manager.

AMS-CDG-AMS (KL/m-class) Hfl 40,=, about €18,=, tax, the rest paid with Shell points.

AMS-LAX-AMS (KL/C-class!!) = PRICEWINNER!!!    FREE GRATIS UMSONST FREE !!!!!

EWR-PHX (CO/m-class) $113, about €95,= taxes included; not bad for a 5 hr flight.

LAS-LAX (WN) $42, about €35,= taxes included, cheaper than driving!

Iv had a few..

EZY:

LTN-DTM-LTN = £16
LGW-CGN-LGW = £25 (I think, and regret  Wink)
LTN-WAW-LTN - £256

One of my best though was a few weeks ago, Wanted to leave MAD early as i didnt feel like waiting hours for my original flight..

BA wanted £380 MAD-LHR
IB wanted £600 MAD-LHR
EZY had no other flights apart from my Original...

Decided to try Multi City..

Alitalia wanted 700Euro via Milan
LH wanted 350Euro via FRA

In the end I went with:

AF / MAD-CDG-LHR / 188 Euro (£120) Within 1.5 hours to departure... I Took it as I thought it was a great deal in such small time and also got a jumpseat ride so was well worth it.

Hail AF! (something I never ever ever thought I would say!)

The best deal I ever made was when the Star Alliance had a special promotion when the alliance was launched in fall 97. If you could fly with all 5 airlines you received 2 free round-trip tickets with each of the airlines.

For about $1,100 I flew:

SK: FBU-DUS
LH: DUS-JFK
UA: LGA-IAD
AC: IAD-YYZ
AC: YYZ-ZRH
TG: ZRH-AMS
SK: AMS-FBU

and had a nice one week vacation while picking up 10 round-trip tickets which were wonderful to have. My wife and I saw quite a bit of the world in 98 with those tickets.

A few years ago I did

EDI-DUB on FR for 1 pound + tax
DUB-EDI on FR for 50 pence + tax

EDI-BFS on U2 for 2.50 pounds + tax
BFS-EDI on U2 for 2.50 pounds + tax

both tickets ended up at around 20 pounds return including tax.

I think my cheapest long haul ticket (not travel agent discounted) was DUS-YYZ-DUS for 299 Deutsche Mark (around 150 Euro) return on Canada 2000. It was a special promotion, and we were lucky to get seats for that fare... Many of my flights were at discounts for travel agents, but they don't count  Wink

Cheers

Ah well if you are going to include FF miles then that opens a whole can of worms!
BA First: London Heathrow-Washington (with Pics) (by Fbgdavidson Oct 4 2005 in Trip Reports)
Book price 4257 GBP and I paid 84 GBP in taxes  thumbsup

Also using FF miles, LHR-CPT-LHR in BA First with my girlfriend, book price of over 12,500 GBP but paid a shade over 200 GBP in taxes

I never actually booked it but it was
BA London - Tokyo £200 (inc tax)

It was a thursday special offer a year or two ago. didn't book it as it was fairly short notice and I had heard that hotels in Japan were very expensive, could kick myself now

Mine was BCN-STN-BCN on U2. I paid 40€ or so. Last july I flew BCN-FRA-HEL-FRA-BCN on LH for 280€ inc taxes. It was a pretty good deal too.
At the bus station, buses stop. At the train station, trains stop. At my desk, I have a work station.

Get this, 4 round trip tickets from Boston-Sanfran and back on Song for 20$ total. All on my dads FF miles on DL. He has probably been saving them for the past 15+ years.
