Best Economy Class In The World

Fri Oct 21, 2005 1:10 pm

What do you think is the best and worst economy class in this world at the moment. So no old airlines. I have not traveled on many airlines apart from SQ, S2, UA, TG (when I was very young).

For me S2 was the best because of its excellent seat pitch and its service

Service-wise, on the airlines I've flown, KE holds the top spot. Good seat pitch, and amazing seat recline. Otherwise, I'll have to go with SK's long haul economy product.

Cheers

SK is Scandinavian Airlines. As far as best economy, I'd have to give that to British Airways World Traveller. Very comfortable seats, decent pitch, great food, good entertainment, and great service (of course). As far as the worst, I'm not a big fan of Northwest's economy product, especially when I get stuck with some of their older 757s.

Not many US domestic economy cabins are anything more than bearable. Southwest at least try to create a good atmosphere on board.

Long haul, BA Economy is hard to beat, though I just flew on Continental for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised.

My top 4 are as follows:

1 - Qatar Airways (34 inch legroom in coach A330's)
    2 - Malaysia Airlines
    3 - SAS
    4 - British Airways

TG also offers one of the best all round products, but their lack of PTV's in Eco is holding them back!  Smile

BA is not a great economy class airline. The pitch at 31" is cramped, and they don't have amazing IFE as its not AVOD. I've flown SEA-LHR-SEA twice now on the 744 and I like BA, but their economy class could use an extra inch, new seats, and new IFE. They do have good food and service though. They also provide little packs with socks, a mask, and a little tooth brush, which is nice.

I have only tried KL, BA and QF long haul and out of these three airlines, I found QF to be the best with BA coming in at a close second and KL third, mainly because of the somewhat boring IFE.

MH has one of the best economy classes out there.

-34" pitch (The seats are quite comfortable for Cattle Class)
-Foot rests (they are large, and sturdy, unlike some of the others I've seen)
-PTVs (not as good as SQ, EK, or VS, but still...)
    -Exceptional, attentive service
    -Good Catering

The only time I've managed to sleep on a plane was on MH. I slept for 6 hours on my KUL-LHR flight. The seats also have a little "hook" so that you can hang your coat too!

One tip that really helps: For Airline codes and Airport codes, drag your cursor over them, and it will show the corresponding info!
Best economy class that I have been on: Out of the airlines I have been on, AA,CO,DL, and Atlantic Airlines of Honduras(don't fly them!), CO has definitely been the best so far.

    My favorites:

    - JAL - I take them the most often. At least 4 times a year. Staff is always nice and food is not bad.
    - Lufthansa - What's so funny? The food was pretty good when I took them 3 years ago.
    - ANA - They were okay, too.

I don't want to start a flame war, but I prefer airlines that use 747s for long haul flights. I personally find the Airbuses to be too cramped for my liking. The times I've been on Airbuses for long-haul flights there was no IFE system, which made the trip drag on  bored

BA all the way. For consistency of service, nobody can beat BA, Their staff are always friendly, professional and courteous and on all my journeys with BA not once have I come across a moody BA cabin crew member.

People moan about the seat pitch in World Traveller, but I am 5' 10" (and just under 90kgs) and I have never found this uncomfortable.

OK, the IFE is not the best in the air but I am flying in an airline, not a cinema/amusement arcade/language school just like Bearded's awful airline where even the safety demo is on the IFE.

After BA, QF and then SQ and probably MH and NZ.

I haven't really travelled much on long haul, but i really enjoyed my ride on bmi from MAN to ORD and back. The PTVs were great, the choice of entertainment was good, and the food was great too! All round top-notch service, much better than my connecting flight on UA to LAX, although the extra leg room seats were good!

    Without a doubt BA.

Decent entertainment, comfortable seats, adequate for a long haul flight, adequate pitch, and great service. BA's service is great, the way the cabin crew are constantly smiling whilst serving the "food" they hand out is amazing!!!!!

Yeah....food on BA economy could be sliiightly improved I think!!!

Been there! Done that! Had a pleasant flight and exceptionally good service, just like any other BA flight. Of course, I would prefer to fly in Club or even First, but if (like me) you are paying for your own fares, I'd rather pay £499 for the flight and have £501 extra spending money abroad, than pay £1,000 for the privilege of flying Club.

This small things are what makes BA consistent, and a pleasant airline ot fly with. I never have any worries when I fly with them, and do not dread what could happen like I find myself doing on other airlines. The only othe airlines that provide passengers with peace of mind like this are Cathay,SA, and Qantas.

However, seat pitch on the 744 of SA has to say the least, been a disappointment. Executive Economy on the A345 however, is the best Economy, but technically it is not economy.

So, because the airline didn't put in IFE's that makes Airbuses uncomfortable to fly on? I am not following you here. That is the airlines fault, and contrary to what you say, almost everyone prefers an Airbus longhaul from the travellers point of view.

I thought the seats were fine, IFE adequate (better than others even though it is not AVOD), but its the consistancy that I have had with BA that makes it get my vote.

The best long haul economy experience I have ever had was on Qantas and I wouldn't hesitate to fly long distances with them again.

Also noteworthy is MEA. AVOD on the A330-200s, PTVs with fantastic entertainment on the A321s, good seat pitch and planes whose average age is less than 2 years old.

Icelandair, great service for econnomy class. My vote goes to FI.

Lufthansa? THey suck big time. Unfortunately I'm flying with LH in about 2 weeks  Sad The only reason I'm taking them, because they were the cheapest. (don't count LH as my vote. Only FI )

I think Air NZ on there 747s good food and seat pitch. And with the new aircraft AVOD will make it even better.
Qantas offer a nice product just a terrible seat pitch on their 747s.

I am trying SQ for the first time in 2 weeks I hope they are as good as everyone says they are. I just hope for an exit row.
Why fly non stop when you can connect

I heard the seat pitch is very little and some one tall with struggle all the way, is this true?

Fact! I am avg height and I find it too cramped.

I personally find the Airbuses to be too cramped for my liking

    U mean u like 3-4-3 over 2-4-2. Nice!
