Best US Carrier Across The Pacific?

Tue Oct 25, 2005 10:31 am

Alright I have a question for all the seasoned long haulers who cross the Pacific frequently...what US airline do you find to have the best biz or first class? I may be traveling to PEK in a few weeks, and don't want to choose poorly- I've never been into burning money on airlines who don't deserve it  Smile

There is the nonstop from EWR-PEK.

From this forum, its seems that CO has pretty good service regradless of cabin travelled.

Enjoy!

Don't know where you are leaving from, but UA's 744 C-class is a good product...not as good as the T7's, but nice nonetheless...and you can sit "upstairs". The upper deck cabin is much better than the main deck IMO.

According to United's timetable, United flight #850 switches from a 747-400 to a 777 on October 31st. The timetable has it listed as on the 777 until at least April 1st.

Maybe you can time a trip to fly over on a 747-400 but back on the 777!! I wanted to do that from SAN before BA changed from one to the other, but couldn't do.

Not many chances to do that outside of Asia anymore, is there?

Worldjet777,

Unless you want a non-stop flight (which means UA or Air China...pretty obviously which one to pick), if i were you I'd give the US carriers the flick and go with one of the Japanese Carriers, or Cathay Pacific.

This way you can get the miles (if you're Star member, take ANA), or if you're with AA you can take JAL or Cathay. All have very very good first class products... I particularly like Cathay myself as its very stylish and gives you the chance to have a Hong Kong stop if you wish.

Living in Dallas I'm guessing your with AA... so If i were you I'd get to the nearest Cathay or JAL port. Also on JAL, Cathay and ANA you will get flatbeds in biz class (the new JAL seasons seat is very good), and full sleeper suits in first, however do not use Air China or China Eastern etc...

IMO, BusinessFirst on CO is better than it's competitors on UA and NW, but UA has a real first class with those sweet sleeper seats up front on the 744...it's really hard to argue with them! If you want to stick to Business Class though, EWR-PEK on CO. They also serve better food and have a better amenity package, too. Also, fares are dirt cheap right now for that route through the end of the year I think.

I think First Class on a U.S. carrier to Peking, while it pains me to say it..being the hard-core UAL basher that I am... is probably United.

If you're going to Tokyo, however, American's First Class is the best.

Worldjet,

I'm with Luftansa's view: if you don't mind a stop over at the world's best airport, HKG, take CX: best first class, and world class Business Class. Service is top tier and lounges are outstanding. Having flow UA, AA and CX, for me there not even in the same game!

SkyTrax survey results:

CX: http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/CX.htm
AA: http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/AA.htm
UA: http://www.airlinequality.com/Airlines/UA.htm

Alright I can now confirm I will be going with OneWorld, so the decision is down to AA, JAL, or CX in F class. Who do you guy's recommend?

Well being a star fan, I would have suggested ANA or SQ or UA, but understanding that you live in AA's fortress of Dallas, I would definitely reccomend CX if you don't mind going out of your way to HKG because they truly have an amazing product or fly to Chicago and connect to JAL's flight and then onto Pek. A little more direct route, but make sure your on the flight with First Class and not the one without it. This first class is their new seat, and I'm sure its nice although JAL is one of the few airliens I know little about, especially since its basically nhever discussed at all on a.net!

CX, that's a no brainer.  Smile

JL is great too though, been on their F before a few years back, great food, great service. It IS a little shorter in terms of flight time, although I suspect transfer times are more favourable for CX than for JL. Have you been to either city? Is there an option to stay a day or two in between transfers or is it all the way to PEK and all the way bacK?

While SQ can be fantastic, it is also a LONG way out. You're flying extra 5-6 hours to transfer in SIN. It's not worth it. ANA is not a bad option though, but since you're going with OW, it's a moot point.

If you don't burn money on airlines who don't deserve it, fly with Cathay Pacific,Singapore Airlines,ANA or Malaysian and not with an american carrier!!
