Fantasy Routes From Your Local Airport.

Sun Oct 30, 2005 3:44 pm

Hello everybody. I was wondering two things:

1) What is the closest airport to you with commercial traffic?
2) What routes would you like to see that are currently not served there?

Well, I am 5-10 minutes from LGB. I'd like to see CHI from there. That would be nice. Anywhere in Mexico would be cool too. I wonder how AS or B6 would compete with carriers operating from LAX. Too bad we don't have any CBP. We also have the largest Cambodian population in the United States (I think). Would these flights even be successful from LAX? I have more but they're stuck in my mind....

Share your thoughts!

I live close to SDL. It's a small airport with only a couple of routes. All of them within Sweden.

It would be nice to see a route to a larger hub in Europe, for example FRA, AMS, LHR, CDG or CPH.
A319-A321, A332-A333, RJ85, B733-B738, B743-B744, B752, B762-B764, B772-B773, CRJ200-CRJ700, Dash 8 Q300-Q400, ERJ 145,

I'd like to see a non-stop LHR-LAS route preferably served by BA

BOS-SOF please! On a fast plane. Unfortunatelly until the reconstruction of SOF is completed a 747 cannot land there. Isn't the 747 the fastest plane in service now?

With Virgin serving that route I am surprised BA doesn't have it as well.

I'm in ATL and some dream routes for me would be SE Asia. Maybe Singapore, Hong Kong, or Bangkok. Of course we would also love to see flights to LHR on anyone instead of going into LGW.

Well, I think it can be moved to LHR, but it's a lesuire route. so LGW is better. But it could be done.

Ideally I'd have:

CMA-BEY
CMA-GVA
CMA-KYE
CMA-OXF
OXF-GVA

CMA is Camarillo, KYE is Rene Mouawad Airfield, OXF is Oxford Kidlington Airport.

Don't even get me started Big grin. In my opinion, my local Airport PHX, is one of the most internationally deprived airports even with its standing as the 5th largest city in the United States. International flights are pathetic only serving, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, and my favorite LHR with BA. This is done with a grand total of I believe 4 airlines. They are HP (Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica), AeroMexico (Mexico), BA (LHR), and Air Canada (Canada). The closest flight that I would like to see would be Prescott even though its just a 2 hour drive, I mean there is service to Yuma so why not Prescott. My dream routes are very numberous but are as follows

Dublin
Japan (Tokyo, Osaka)
Malaysia
China
Hong Kong
Taiwan
Copenhagen
Frankfurt (LH discontinued service with a A343 I believe 2 years ago or more)
CDG
Tahiti Big grin
US Virgin Islands

The list goes on and on, but because of our close proximity to LAX, many of the airlines overlook us, so maybe one on my list will ever become reality.

More routes I would like to see @ LAX:

JNB
DXB
CPH
TLV non-stop
LOS (Will we ever see VK here?)
HAV (We won't see this for a while...)
BOM non-stop
WN to DAL (Repeal the Wright / Shelby Amendment!)
SXM!  bigthumbsup

Do we have BKK non-stop? If we don't that's on my list too. More to come...

I'd like to see London Gatwick to London Stansted on a small regional jet for fast load/unload. Approx £25-30 one way.

When I think of going to Stansted from south London it conjures up historic images of horse-drawn stage coaches going between London to Dover. That was a days' journey too!  Wink
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Here at school I'm closest to ABE. I wouldn't fly internationall from here because there's no reason to, and I can fly wherever I'd want to from here domestically (except the West Coast), I just wish it was cheaper. It's something like 380 dollars round trip to BOS. If it were like 100 bucks I'd hope on a plane to BOS in a heartbeat to go see my friends who go to school there! If Only! And I wish we'd see something else here than CRJ-600's and Dash-8's. We get a few DC-9's from NW and a 737 and 757 from Hooter's Air, but there's very little variety, and flights come in very rarely.

Back home I'm closest to EWR. I wish there were flights to ATH (I mean, I can fly from JFK but it's a pain to drive there and I have no mileage with them). I also wish other airlines besides LX and CO would fly to GVA, because they are so ridiculously expensive! Otherwise, I wish airlines would fly EWR-JNB non-stop, because stopping on the way is just a pain, especially next summer when I go with the orchestra here. Just my two cents, since I don't go anywhere but Greece and Switzerland.

I'm close to SEA.

1) HYD - Hyderabad, India. At 7782 miles (courtesy of great circle mapper), within the range of the longer range jets. (Shorter than LAX-SIN, for example.) I fly to HYD about 2x / year on business. Right now it's usually a stop in AMS and BOM although I can now get it down to just the one stop in AMS.

2) Slighly shorter is SEA-SYD at 7739 miles or SEA-AKL at 6990 miles.

I would really like to see a direct flight to FLL (Fort Lauderdale) Purely because I have relatives there and it would be nice to have no hassle, just to get there.

FANTASY ROUTE-hense forthe, not realistic in my book, I'd like to see QF fly SYD-MCO...although logistically I doubt they could reach it, except empty of course. Perhaps with the new 773LR it could....I'd just like to see more Int'l flights into MCO. I always have the European charters flying over my house, at about 4000' on finals into SFB which is also nice to see in the afternoon/eve's.

I really would like to have a triangular route from LIN: LIN-CHQ-JNX-LIN...which aircraft can operate from JNX (very short runway) to LIN?? I think none, without a stopover (or two)!

It's raining from this morning and I am really thinking about holidays  Sad

I once made up a fantasy airline called AirCleveland, based at BKL (that's Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, OH), which would cater to business travelers with a mixture of Dornier 328JETs and DeHavilland Dash-8-Q400s.

Catering to business travelers, and competing with CO's hub at CLE, would mean using novel airports located close to the business centers of surrounding state capitals and large cities of the Great Lakes region. Here's what I came up with:

Ohio: CMH, DAY, LUK, TOL
Indiana: IND, EVV, SBN
Illinois: GYY, MDW, SPI
Michigan: DET, LAN, AZO, MBS
Pennsylvania: PIT, HAR, PHL, SCE/UNV
West Virginia: CRW, HTS
New York: BUF, ALB, JFK
Wisconsin: GRB

Another model was Ohio Connection using much smaller aircraft from Cessna 402 up to EMB-120, with hubs at BKL and CMH... intended to facilitate business ventures and travel throughout Ohio. It would probably be an EAS-type airline.

BKL - LUK, CMH, TOL, DAY, HTS, (MFD, AOH, UNI, ...)

CMH - TOL, CAK, YNG, BKL, HTS, (MFD, AOH, PCW, ...)
Up, up and away!

I live some 40km. from GRU and about 30 from CGH so
I WANT!!!

GRU-MCO - once operated by Transbrasil and since they've bankrupted no one has taken their place!! TAM with the A330 would be an excellent option!

and

CGH-AEP - would be awesome! Operated by Aerolineas and Gol!!
