How Much Transfer Time Do I Need At CDG?

Mon Nov 07, 2005 5:26 am

I'm travelling ARN-ORD on AF next summer with a plane change at CDG. I have two options on the way back, a 45 minute transfer time or a 6 hours and 45 minutes transfer time. Clearly, the 6 hour option is very long but is 45 minutes enough? I'm transfering from terminal 2C to terminal 2D.

I don't think anyone has ever made it though CDG in 45 mins. It took me all of two hours to get from 2C to 2D when I was at CDG last. Huge chaotic lines at security makes for nice delays. Also, don't expect security guards to know more English than "passport" and "next"...

BTW, does anyone know how come (the incredibly old) T1 is so much easier and faster to connect through than the T2?

Cheers

I have connected there twice. It was relatively quick both time from 2C to 2D and the other way. It's ugly to navigate, but if you know the way, it should be possible in 45 minutes. I had a scheduled 65 minutes transfer time (PEK-CPH), and I had plenty of time waiting for the boarding to start at the designated gate.

BUT...there can perhaps be long queues, and maybe your inbound flight are delayed. And I'm not sure whether your checked-in baggage can transit in 45 minutes  Smile

Also, I'm not sure if the procedure for transfering to a US flight is different. I have only transferred to Asia bound flights. I would actually like to know, as I have a 70 minutes stop-over in CDG this January, on my way CPH-LAX  Smile
Last flight: SAW-CPH on H9 on 02/11/09 - Next Flights: 23/12/09 CPH-AAL on QI, 30/12/09 CPH-LHR on SK, 19/01/10 CPH-CDG-

It really depends. I made it in around 40 min. But another time it took me 2 hours. It can really get annoying if you get a bus rather then a gate, or you need to wait in line for passport check. All I can wish you is good luck!

I have this same exact problem! We just booked a trip to ATH and we are taking AF from ORD-CDG-ATH, but the thing is we only have a 45 minute connection and have to transfer from 2C to 2D also. I have never been to Europe and I'm very unfamiliar with the airport. We come into CDG on AF 51 at 8:50am and our flight 1532 to ATH leaves at 9:35am. Does anybody have any other information, recommendations, or detailed terminal maps that could help me out? Thanks

Transfers at CDG can be a real challenge. Depending on what airline you are flying, of course. But a DL to AF (or reverse) connetion can have you running through the airport.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

Quoting SDLSimme (Thread starter):
a 45 minute transfer time or a 6 hours and 45 minutes transfer time

Go for the 45 minute option. If you catch that flight, fine. If not, AF will rebook you. If you don't make any plans on your day of arrival in ARN, you will have no stress getting home.

An other option can be ORD-CDG-AMS-ARN; The ORD flight will arrive in CDG at 08.50am, CDG-ARN departs at 09.35am but the CDG-AMS departs at 10.30am with a connection to ARN at 13.10, arrival 15.15. This will give you 1 hour extra at CDG and 1 more flight! (we all like flying....)

45 minutes are absolutely no problem when you transfer within Terminal 2.

The best fare I have found was on an online travel agency. Will AF rebook me even if I buy my ticket from an online travel agency?

So I can book the fare with 45 minute transfer time and if I miss my flight, I can be calm because AF have to book me on the next flight?

Sorry if I ask stupid questions but I'm not a very experienced international flyer  Smile

Yes, provided the CDG-ARN stretch is sold as a connecting flight. So ORD-CDG-ARN, and all on AF ticketstock (0057). If you buy ORD-CDG and a seperate ticket CDG-ARN they might refuse to rebook you. If 1 of the flights is not from a Skyteam carrier they may charge you for a complete new ticket. Eg. ORD-CDG with UA and a seperate CDG-ARN with AF. Let's say the UA flight is late so you miss the ARN flight. AF is entitled to charge you for a new ticket if your ticket is non-changeable and non-refundable.

Hi there,

just make yourself ready to have your first flight extremely delayed or cancelled entirely. I almost killed myself running like mad through CDG (when my flight was cancelled and I arrived with the next one available /delayed, btw/; connecting flight was delayed too, this time for my sake).

Having learnt that, a year after I made my another CDG transfer deliberately to be 6 hours long. Spent 2 hours in deadly queues at the security, but I was fine (all within T2). Apparently that wasn't the case with my luggage, which arrived at my destination 1 week after myself.

If you have a choice, DO NOT transfer at CDG (just don't). If you don't, make your transfer as long as possible, but still be cautious all the way through.

Best regards
