Just curious as to how many of you guys remember your first time on a jet. I was 12 years old. My brother and I were flying from
LAX to
SAN to visit our grandparents. This was in the late 60's. My dad bought us First Class tickets since it was our first flight. The tickets were $ 11.62 each. We flew on an American Airlines B-707. The flight had come into
LAX from
BOS and was going on to
SAN. We were the only 2 passengers in the First Class cabin. When we got off the plane in
SAN we were greeted by our grandparents, cousins , aunts and uncles, and all right at the gate. It was probably the most exciting day of my childhood. From that moment on I was hooked. I live in
LAS now and take day trips to
ONT,
LAX,
RNO and
PHX just so I can fly.

1979 on a DC-10 from
JNB to
AMS via NBO. I took this flight with my mom and it was just after the terrible accident in Chicago she was scared to death the whole way. I loved the flight and could not help thinking the whole time, what a big aircraft! This was the start of a European trip that let to flights on
KL,
SR,
AF,
LH and
BA with B707's, Dc-8's, Caravelles etc. Since then I was hooked with aircraft and as a result work in the airline industry.

July 1982 on PSA Boeing 727 from
FAT-
SAN. I was 5 years old and I remember walking up to the aircraft, using air stairs, and seeing the huge smile on the front of the airplane. I thought that was so cool and after that I was hooked.

August 1977. It was our first family vacation than involved flying.
LAX-
PVR-MZT-
LAX, all on Mexicana 727's. I had just turned seven years old, and from about 30 seconds after takeoff, I knew that I had to be a pilot.
It was several years before I was able to fly again, but it all worked out. I soloed in a glider when I was 15 and a Cessna 150 on my 16th birthday. I went on to get my Commercial, single-engine land and sea, multi-engine land and instrument ratings. But, sadly, I never got a job flying.

1982 (aged 4):
MUC-
TXL-
MUC daytrip with Pan Am 737.
I got really sick when we landed in
TXL and I finally had to vomit in the arrival hall. I can still remember my father carrying me outside to get some fresh air and the cleaning lady who took care of me and my mess.

My first flight on a jet (or any aircraft for that matter) was when I was 21.
A coworker of mine had recently moved from Mayland to San Fransisco.
My first flight was on World Airways,
BWI-
MCI-
OAK, on a DC-10-30. Airfare in 1984 was $320.00US round trip. I sat in seat 33A in a 3-4-3 cattle coach configuration.
The woman who was sitting in 33C (there was no one in B) was a delightful travelling companion who was returning to Lake Tahoe from a trip to Frankfurt. I don't remember her name, but was I pleased to have such a nice person to chat with on my first flight.
One nice thing about the flight was that though we didn't get a movie because of the stop in
MCI, we did get 2 full meals! (
PS: I like to eat!)
So there you have it!

My brother teased me all the way there. I was just 7 or so. On landing when the flaps came out, he told me the wings were falling apart!

My first time in a jet was a Malaysian Airlines 747-400, 16th January 1993. I was 9 years old. My family and I were emigrating to the UK. I remember that journey so well, from the strange woman in the centre row, who wrote a story about a little mouse and made me sit on her lap to read it to me, to my mother telling me not to accept any offers of "icing sugar" from strange men in the toilets at Kuala Lumpur. The best part was the fact that a family friend had rung ahead and told the airline it was my sister's birthday that day, and we were given a bottle of champagne and taken up to the flight deck. It was such a long journey but very memorable.

It was in August 1980. I was 25 years old. Was with
UA, not sure if a 747 or DC-10,
EWR-
LAX-
EWR, for 2 weeks vacation in Califronia. Also my first commercial flight. Not too many on the flight, had plenty of space in my seat, toward the back of the a/c, left side. Many flights since then.

1995 aged 30 with a chubby, shaking, lousy 732 from
LH FRA-
MUC.
Business trip early in the morning - you were able to smell at least 25 different After Shaves - awful.
Seat 1B. Looking left - another passenger. looking forward - a wall - GREAT #$@+*!&. BTW: What's legroom?
Service: a paper bag with a small D- grade sandwich, one cup of tea/coffe/orange and - of course - the world-reknown (sarcasm
ON) warm, helpful, open and friendly
LH service (#$@+*!&!!!). Hey, this was business class - simply great! (Sarcasm OFF).
Neither the route nor the
AC nor the seat nor the service were any indication or even a minimal inhibitor for me to become an enthusiast. That came after the initial jet "experience".
Regards,
Starknob

1986, the only thing I know is that there's a picture of me at 1 year old in front of a window with the
HP flight I was about to get on ready to board the plane, I'm not sure what the route structure was back then is
SLC-
LAS/
PHX-
SNA possible? I was moving to California. If I remember the photo correctly it was a 732. My first prop flight was last year (QX DH4
SEA-
YYC), a bit backwards but oh well.

1988 or 89 I think. Flew
DTW to either EGKK or EGLL, I was only 5 so I don't quite remember. Was on an ATA L-1011 Tristar. I remember being terrified that the pilots were going to do loops...lol.

If I remember correctly, It was when I went to Spain (was around 6) and I very strongly remember our aircraft, a dirty, old and paintless Air Atlanta Icelandic. Not sure what it was, was fairly big though. May have been an
MD-11! Anybody help?

It was on TWA, a 707, from CHM to
PIT, returning same day on a 727.
(Back in the day when big jets flew routes like this. The full routing of the 707 was
LAX-
ORD-
CMH-
PIT-
JFK.)

August 1979. I was 12 years old. My father, who had always been sh*t scared of the thought of flying, had given in and pandered to my enthusiast's cravings of actually flying rather than just looking at planes and had booked us a two-week holiday in the Channel Islands.
We had flown to
GCI on a
BA Viscount two weeks previously, had done a day trip from
GCI to
JER on Aurigny's little yellow Trislanders, but then our journey home had us flying back to
JER on the Trislander before boarding a
BA BAC1-11 back to
LHR! This was to be my fifth flight ever, all of which took place in the space of those two weeks, but my first jet flight. In those two weeks I had grown accustomed to the gentle ascent of prop planes, so imagine my excitement when we roared down the runway at
JER and headed what seemed like vertically into the sky!! We were also sitting one row from the back, so I had a partial view of the jet to boot...heaven!!
Even my Dad had to admit that he enjoyed it!

1965 United DC-8
SFO-Washington DC-
SFO (was Dulles built then?). I was 3 years old. When I was told we were going to fly on a jet to see the grandparents, I assumed the plane would land on our street and pick us up and whisk us away. Did not know about airports.
My mother tells the story about this flight when the stewardess was handing me a glass of milk, we hit turbulence and she spilled the milk all over me. She put the tray of milk and juice that she was carrying down on the tray table at my seat, to try to help mop me up. Then the shock of the cold milk landing on me sunk in (delayed reaction) and I kicked the tray table with my feet and the tray of drinks went up and landed mostly on the stewardess. Poor thing.

That one I envey!
My first JET flight was in 1968 on an Ansett B727-100
SYD-POM (Port Morseby, PapuaNewGuniea). I nearly had a fit when he dropped full flap, it looked like the whole wing had come apart!
That flight also lead to my first DC3 (Ansett-MAL) flight that afternoon, Madang-Momote, 240 nm at 6000' to 2 degrees south of the equator and god was it COLD in the old girl.

I'm not sure of the date or even the plane, but I flew
MIA-Nassau many times when I was a small child to see my grandmother in the mid/late 80's, I know at some point we flew bahamasair which would mean my first flight on a jet would have been one of their 737-200's, and I might have even flown on my first jet again last year when I flew the same route on a 732
