CDG To ANC : Best Gateway In The US?

Sun Nov 20, 2005 3:42 am

Hi all,

In your opinion, what is the best gateway to ANC, flying inbound from CDG (BIQ, in fact but too small to be knew there  ) ? Seattle seems to be fine but it will be a long trip : BIQ to CDG, CDG to, say, JFK, JFK to SEA and next SEA to ANC.

Any thought about that ? Maybe Chicago ?

Best regards,

Raphael

Go through Chicago. Nice airport, and united is a nice airline. Comfortable seats for the long flight to ANC. Can't say the same about the seats on NW.

Thanks all for this advice !

I will now put all this stuff on the computer to have a quote Big grin

I will not leave US from ANC, as I want to spend some time in west coast. I will probably try to find a leg from ANC to LAS and, eventually leave from SFO.

Some good suggestions, but it depends on what time of the year you are travelling to ANC. If you are going in the winter, then the number of flights is drastically reduced.

Quoting AS739X (Reply 2):
CDG-ORD AF/AA
ORD-ANC AS/AA/UA

CDG-MSP NW
MSP-ANC NW

CDG-MSP? Does NW operate that route? Also in the winter only AS operates ORD-ANC. In the winter there are very few flights to ANC from cities other than SEA. MSP-ANC does not connect with European flights.

Your best option is to fly CDG-ORD-ANC on an AA/UA/AF connecting to AS. I believe that is your only single connection opportunity with a layover under 6 hours. Otherwise you can double connect. You could fly a wide variety of carriers to SEA from CDG (BA via LHR, KL via AMS, AA, UA, DL, CO, US, NW, AC etc via their North American hubs) and then connect to UA/CO/AS to ANC form SEA. If you prefer to stay with a single carrier, the only airlines that would work out would be CO via EWR-SEA or UA via ORD/IAD-SEA or DL via JFK-SLC

Raphael, it all depends which airline/Alliance you want to fly !
Are you a member of any FFP ?

With Skyteam, you can fly CDG-AMS-SEA-ANC (AF/KL/NW)
or CDG-CVG-MSP-ANC (DL)

Another possibility :

CDG-ORD-ANC (AA/AS)

If you prefer Star Alliance, you can try CDG-CPH-SEA-ANC operated by SAS and United.

Then you will have a possibility to try the famous SK CPH-SEA service that so many people in here talk about  Smile
Last flight: SAW-CPH on H9 on 02/11/09 - Next Flights: 23/12/09 CPH-AAL on QI, 30/12/09 CPH-LHR on SK, 19/01/10 CPH-CDG-

So there's no non-stop CDG-SEA service? How come??
Has there ever been one?

It is a route that people in SEA want. The governor of Washington was trying to get AF to come to SEA. Maybe one day, but SEA lacks European flights. There are only flights to LHR, CPH and AMS. No nonstops to FRA, CDG, etc.

Actually the AMS-SEA service is operated by NW on their A333.

Dont think so but I could be wrong... Not in the last 15 years at least, because in SEA we get the unconventional carriers (ie; SU, SK) and then BA and NW... I dont even attempt to understand their logic.

At any rate I would definately recommend the stopover in ORD and then the AS flight to ANC.

Back in the early 90's I flew ANC-LHR, then CDG-LHR-ANC... that was pretty convenient.... the ANC-LHR-ANC flight was actually routered NRT-ANC-LHR-ANC-NRT..... BA 5/6.....

But...I don't believe there's LHR-ANC anymore.... so CDG-ORD-ANC on AA/AS sounds best.... and what better way to get to Alaska, than on Alaska?  Smile

A small bit of info - if you're an IFE fan, remember that neither NW or AS have IFE . . . .

So, MSP-ANC on NW is 6 hours with no IFE. ORD-ANC on AS is 6 hours with no IFE - on a 737 as well.

If I had to make the trip I'd go CDG-LHR-SEA-ANC. BA/AS.

Hi all,

One more time, thanks *ALL* for this valuable information. I will probably do via ORD or SEA. I will travel in late spring and as a Skyteam member, I will try to choose members airlines.

This kind of discussion is very interesting to compare networks! And yes, unfortunately, there no CDG-SEA non stop route, maybe later with the open sky agreement to comes ?

Anyway, and regarding IFE, the last time I flew to SEA, it was with DELTA, from JFK. It's about a 5 hours trip, and in this oldfashion B757 it was very very long  Smile

Rpailard, I cannot help you but I have a few questions for you:
Since you mention BIQ as the origin, do you live near Parme airport?
What airlines took over FU routes, if any?

Hi TEVA,

Yes, BIQ is "Aéroport de Biarritz PARME" and YES I live close to BIQ. Regarding FU, witch is (was indeed) AirLittoral if I'm correct, well nobody took the route ... except AirFrance, of course.

So nowadays we have AirFrance serving CDG/ORY and further legs : Nice, Lyon, Clermont, and seasonally Geneve. As far as I know, all this flight are operate by Regionnal with SAAB and Embraer, sometimes Foker, to. We also have Ryanair, serving DUBLIN and London.

To sum up, we can observe here the whole A320 family with AirFrance, a lot of different RJ with Regionnal, B737 with Ryanair and much various private Jet.

Fell free to ask, it's my pleasure to talk about my hometown  Wink
