NW DC-10 Or A330?

Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:17 am

So I had originally planned to fly on NWs DC-10 one more time to AMS routing DTW-MEM-AMS-MEM-DTW since MEM and MSP are the only cities to AMS with DC-10 service now but I have been thinking lately that maybe I could route DTW-AMS-MEM-DTW to get a ride on the A330 and DC-10 since I have not been on the A330 yet. And I just wanted someone else's opinion on the matter so what do ya think?

NWA757boy

If you ask yourself "Which will be flying pax in 20 years time?" you may find your answer!

I've only ever flown one DC10 from MEM to SEA with NW in 1999 and I'd never flown an A330 at the start of this year; I've now flown four planes with three different operators.

If you are an air enthusiast, you may regret not taking the DC10.

Just my 5 Rappen!

I would go for the DC-10 man, No doubt. They wont be around for much longer and the leg room looks awesome. Besides the angle flat seats are not the best on NW.

I would choose the DC-10, afterall we may not see them around in PAX service for much longer!

I think J is excellent on the NWA DC10's

Thanks guys I knew I shouldn't even considered changing it...the DC-10 is a classic! And when I called the NW resveration agent I was talking to her about the situation and I dont know if she fully understood but yeah thanks all I will stay on the DC-10

Enthusiast concerns aside, I think the DC-10 interior looks much more inviting than the A330's. I think the A330 is a great aircraft, but many of the newer "ergonomic" business and first class seats aren't to my liking.

If anyone at EK is listening and would like to offer me a ride in F on the A345, perhaps I will reconsider my criticism of new age premium seats.

I would get them both. More planes, more fun  Smile

Are the NW DC-10's painted in the new livery like the A330's or isn't NW going to bother because they're going soon?

DC-10 on the way there, and A330 on the way back. There you go.

I've flown in WBC on both of these planes from SEA-AMS-BOM & return (twice) on DC10s, as well as SEA-SIN via NRT and SEA-PEK via NRT on the 330's.

I guess I'm dissenting with the majority here in that I like the A330 better. If you really want to fly in a DC10, you should do it. It is a cool plane and feels very spacious. They still have lots of room (60" seat pitch). However, I've been in DC10 seats where the personal video doesn't work at all (it was fine, I was planning to sleep that leg). But even so, it's a lot less of an offering than the A330's. Basically the DC10 WBC is state of the art 15 years ago, and the A330's are right on par with today's business class. You can see the details of the new world business class offering on NWA.com.

Even though NWA gets a bad rap from a lot of people, I really enjoy flying their WBC. The lounges are decent, vanity kit is pretty complete, and I've found the service to be good, if a little inattentive. You can always go ask for what you need.
