International Service At Your Airport

Sat Dec 03, 2005 2:21 pm

Still fresh off my trip to Mexico I decided this would make an interesting topic...what kind of international service does your local international airport have?(I guess this is a question for those of you in the US)
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

I'm in Palo Alto so I guess I have SFO to the north and SJC to the south.

SFO has a lot of international traffic..more than I know. and I'm pretty sure SJC has some too.

Currently, I have the choice of three airports... Big grin

FRA: Well... see N1120A's comment about LAX...
ZRH: Nonstop Destinations on all continents except Australia
VIE: Nonstop to all continents except Australia (but direct flights there) and South America

A nice little selection of airports...

Phoenix, Arizona is the 5th largest metro center in the US. Not counting flights to the Mexico Resorts and couple to Canada, only one intercontinental flight to LHR that operates six days a week.

They call SMF an international airport but I doubt they offer any international flights. I heard they have flights to Mexico but I highly doubt it. No wonder I always fly out of SFO every time I have to fly international. I hate flying out of SMF to for example DFW or DEN just to connect to Europe.

XFW has got flights to all continents.... Unfortunately not scheduled and not for pax

But HAM (apart from inner-Europe) only has got CO to Newark and Air Transat to YYZ. And next year EK will start to Dubai (apparently the reason for this is that a lot of people from there come to Hamburg as the hospitals are so good .    ) But we do have the "Tropeninstitut" (Institute for Tropical Medicine) here

EDIT: I tell a lie, of course some fly to northern Africa and Turkey and that's not Europe either (well the Asian part of Turkey that is)!

SMF does indeed have flights to Mexico. Additionally, to be named an international airport, you must have an FIS or have cargo flights that go international. SMF has an FIS, so they are international

Fort Lauderdale has....

(bold means only non-stop service from US)

Canada: Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto

Bahamas: Andros Town, Bimini, George Town, Governor's Harbour, Freeport, Marsh Harbour, Nassau, New Bight, North Eleuthera, Paradise Island, San Salvador, Treasure Cay

Caribbean: Cap Haitien, Cancun, Grand Cayman, Grand Turk, Kingston, Montego Bay, Port Au Prince, Providenciales, Punta Cana, Santo Domingo

South America: Bogota

And with Spirit's continued expansion in the Caribbean region, this list is bound to grow by quite a few. Mexico City will start in June 2006, and look for La Romana and Aruba to be NK's next Caribbean destinations.

West Palm Beach has...
Canada: Montreal, Toronto

Bahamas: Freeport, Marsh Harbour, Nassau

Miami has....
(bold marks only non-stop service from mainland US to that airport)

Canada: Montreal, Toronto

Bahamas & Bermuda: George Town, Freeport, Hamilton, Marsh Harbour, Nassau, North Eleuthera, Treasure Cay

Caribbean: Aruba, Bridgetown, Cayman Brac, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Kingston, La Romana, Montego Bay, Port Au Prince, Port of Spain, Providenciales, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago, Santo Domingo, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten

Mexico & Central America: Belize City, Cancun, Guanacaste-Liberia, Guatemala City, Managua, Merida, Mexico City, Monterrey, Panama City, Roatan, San Jose, San Pedro Sula, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa

South America: Barranquilla, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Cali, Caracas, Cartagena, Cochabamba, Guayquil, La Paz, Lima, Manaus, Montevideo, Maracaibo, Medellin, Quito, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia, Santa Cruz, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo, Valencia

Europe & Middle East: Amsterda, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Helsinki, London-Heathrow, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Moscow-Domodedovo (starts April 2006, pending DOT approval), Munich, Paris, Tel Aviv, Zurich.

In 2006 we will hopefully be adding Antigua, Cape Town/Jo'Burg, Dublin, and Grenada to that list.

CPH has 129 destinations. There are 7 domestic destinations, so I guess that there must be around 122 international destinations  wink .

Lots of international, mainly BA at LHR (also to an extent , BA at LGW) , but I realy couldn't say how many there were

They call SMF an international airport but I doubt they offer any international flights. I heard they have flights to Mexico but I highly doubt it.

SMF does indeed have flights to Mexico. Additionally, to be named an international airport, you must have an FIS or have cargo flights that go international. SMF has an FIS, so they are international

Mexicana flies into SMF. They have flights to GDL, Morelia (MLM), Leon (BJX) and Zacatecas (ZCL). The GDL flights continues on to MEX.
