Have You Ever Flown A Regional Jet?

Mon Dec 05, 2005 5:42 am

I have never flown a regional jet and I would like to have your impressions about flying a RJ.
Thanks

Flew on a BD ERJ in February of this year.

Cosy but comfortable. Wouldn't want to spend more than an hour on one though!
We landed in a strong crosswind...lots of wobbling on the way down, but our little ERJ got in first time. The 777 which had tried ahead of us ended up diverting after a couple of attempts!

Flown many times on Chautauqua CRJ's and only twice on an ERJ. Must say the ERJ was much, much more comfortable.

CR9's with American West (Mesa) and CR7's with America Eagle. Not comfortable over any flight over an hour.

Flown on CRJ's with DL and Independence. Let me put it this way; if a 747 is a Cadillac then a CRJ is a Corvette. Small interior, stiff ride, accelerates like no tomorrow, can turn pretty tightly. But what I remember the most about them is the stiff, noisy landing gear. As you taxi along you feel a THUMP, THUMP, THUMP with every crack and crease in the pavement. And after takeoff the retracting gear go Thump, Hummmmmmmm, THUD!!! The thud is the landing gear hitting the uplocks, and on one flight it was loud enough to wake a sleeping passenger near me. Pretty smooth ride at FL280, but gets quite bumpy when you hit turbulence. If you get the chance I recommend at least one ride on one of these sporty little airliners. I have been on CRJ's four times now and I always enjoyed the ride.

Have only been on a RJ once. A BAe-146 Avro some years ago. I think it was quite fun, as the ride was a bit more rough than the bigger airliners. I think I would choose RJ's over the 737/320's for short Intra-European trips, as I have flown the 737/320's so many times...
Last flight: SAW-CPH on H9 on 02/11/09 - Next Flights: 23/12/09 CPH-AAL on QI, 30/12/09 CPH-LHR on SK, 19/01/10 CPH-CDG-

I've only flown on CRJs. Didn't think they were bad at all, just cramped (well, it IS a RJ) and yes, the low windows are a pain in the neck. Everything else was fine IMO.

But it's really nice because you don't have to deal with so many people boarding/deboarding the aircraft. It goes really quick, unlike widebodies. And you can check-in baggages at the gates.

For me, it's worth the pain (being a little more cramped). Under 1.5 hours, I'll take a RJ any day.

I'm yet to fly on an Embraer though....  Sad

Been in both CRJs and ERJs, they're all kinda small and I don't have a very strong impression of them, other than having little headroom.

If you are taller than 6 feet, then the RJ's are uncomfortable. If you fit this description, then ask for an exit row. I had a flight on an ERJ where I sat in a non exit and then an exit row on the flight back and the first leg was very, very uncomfortable. You'll get a lot more leg room in an exit row and the flight will be tolerable.

Have had the opportunity of flying on the Crj 700 twice in the past 6 weeks, DL connection and AF by Brit Air and I must say I love that plane. Classy, and surprisingly comfy...
Next flights: AF ORY-TLN-ORY; CDG-BOD-CDG; KL CDG-AMS-ADD-AMS-CDG; AF CDG-ATL; DL ATL-MSY-ATL; AF ATL-CDG

If you get one of ASA's 40 seater CRJ, then row 3 is flying first class...recommend this any day. Flown on CRJ's many times and I do like the "private feeling" it offers in comparison to large jets. I have something to suggest...next time you fly on one and if you're a male, try using the lav...it poses a challenge if you're 6ft+.

I flown a number of times, most recently SOU-EDI-SOU/BHX on BA CitiExpress.

I always find them quite interesting and different because my trips on them are few and far between. Alas I am flying RIC-IAD in a few weeks time on an ERJ and back again the following week.

I've been only on CRJs, but I've been on all 3 sub-types:

arrow  CRJ-900 America West Express (11/26/2005)
...No trip report, but I can tell you it was a pretty good flight. I flew it between ONT and LAS, short flight, but I had a row to myself for the first time in at least 5 years!

For me:

CRJ200 Lufthansa CityLine and Air Nostrum - nice plane, great lines, but not too comfortable inside.
ERJ145 KLM exel - the flying pencil - good ride, and comfortable 1-2 layout.
BAe 146-200 Air UK - not very fond of this one...
AVRO RJ100 CityFlyer Express - nor this one. Very cramped and noisy.
Fokker 70 Austrian Airlines - As MH017 said: very comfortable jet. A bit hard to look out through the window though (placed low).

Opposite impressions, my only ride on an ERJ an AZ ER4 was awesome, especially the A side!!! That's a great, comfy little plane. The CRJ and CR7, both of which clog my home airport, on the other hand --- opposite experience. I also enjoy QX's DH2 and DH4, but they're not a jets....

Yes, of course! Actually many of them! I've been on Lufthansa Regional (Cimber Air) CRJ 200 flying HAM-MXP, Malev F70 on MXP-BUD, SN Avro on MXP-BRU-MXP and on Swiss E45, from MXP to ZRH and next leg ZRH-CPH. I have to say that all these trips have been really nice, expecially MXP-ZRH, great landscape over the Swiss Alps and also nice to hear the Captain say, only 20 mins after take-off, that we were already starting to descent into Zurich!

Cheers

Unfortunately I've only flown the F70/100 and Bae regional jet. F70/100 on KLC and Bae on SN (Sabena; not SNBru).

Hope to fly on the regional "Concorde", Emb145.

I did a few trips on various CRJs (100/200/900) with Comair, Mesa, UA Express, etc, as well as a return trip on AA Eagle with the EMB 135. I loved the CRJ. I was a bit disappointed by the EMB jet. It was certainly quiet, but I felt it was more cramped than the CRJ, as well as it had much less storage in the overhead bins (because they were only on one side).
I also did a few trips on the BAe 146/AVRO with AN, QF, LH. I love that one most, and it is always impressive how much power the four engines provide - true STOL capabilities, and you are off the ground in no time... The 2-3 layout is usually quite comfortable.

I have been on mostly CRJ-200s. DL, NW. Once a CO ERJ in Jan 2001 DAL-CLE. Except for the low windows and the small bathrooms they are fun. My recent BOS-IND-BOS trip was on a CRJ. Over 2 hrs but it was fine.

On Dec 1 I flew with B6 BOS-JFK-BOS on the brand new Embraers. AWESOME! I loved it.

I also enjoyed BAe-146 with LH MUC-NCE-MUC in 2004. The most scenic flight also as we flew low above the Alps. Very comfortable. And I am 6'2" 200+ lbs!

That's about it. Everything else has been mainline. But I have not flown a mainline since .... my transatlantic flight in May. Everything is on RJs these days: BOS-DCA, BOS-IND, BOS-JFK. Thanks god my BOS-MCO was a B757!

I have flown on the CRJ-200's for United Express and Skywest Airlines. I am 6'1" and had a rather comfortable flight each time. The only thing about this aircraft that I do not like the fact that the windows on this model are positioned a little bit lower than usual for me. I'd have to bend over in order to see out the window.
I have flown on an America West CRJ-900 and found that aircraft to be much better. Comfortable ride and the windows are higher.

I have also flown on MQ ERJ-135's and 145's and I've had great flights with those as well. The window on these aircraft are a little bit bigger. Great jets. I'm hoping to experience the new 190's soon.
