How Many Times Did You Flight With A Lady As Capt?

Tue Dec 06, 2005 12:47 am

Hi,

after my 100+ flights, mainly around the Europe, I can remember only 2 times a flight with a woman as Captain (MPX-BRU with AZ and, 10 days ago, ATL-MPX with Delta) and no ore than 10 times a flight with a woman as First Officer (last time HAM-BRU with LH).
Ever since A.net is the best aviation community in the world about, I’m curios to know any contribution/statistics about this argument.
Cheers! wave

I would say that on my last 25 or 30 flights or so, about half of the captains were female and half of the F/O's were female. I had (iirc) 10 flights of all female crews and no flights that were all male crews.

Just out of pure curiousity, where are you going with this?

As you already said it's a pure curiosity and the wish to know (as probably is) if in the US this profession is more common between the women than in Europe/rest of the world.

don't bash me for being sexist, but is there any rule to say you cant have a female captain and female FO on the same flight?

just wondering, i remember stories of the olden days when females wern't aloud to be captains because they wern't strong enough to handle the controls if they failed and had to be operated through manual reversion!

I think only once, and I'm not sure about it. It was an ATR-42 flying REC-FEN, so I didnt have a look at the cockpit. Very good landing as well.

I really don't know much about the numbers in Brazil, I suspect very few, but I do know we have at least one female fighter pilot in the Air Force (F-5 IIRC).

Only once recently, in a HP express DHC8, and she was surprisingly good looking.

I wish more women were flying, It's nice to hear a female voice on the radios.

I honestly don't know, several though. One of my best flight instructors was a woman.

As far as I know, there are no rules or regs against that. IIRC, there have been a quite a number of trans atlantic flights where the whole crew (flight and cabin) were female. Continental and Canada 3000 B757's come to mind.

Few times. I do not keep track but my last flight (American Eagle on Nov. 30) ... piloted by a female captain -- I didn't know until after I was walking off the plane. Very good flight ride  sun

She was busy talking on cell phone in the cockpit when I tried to tell her something.

Of course not, can you imagine the commotion that would have arised having regs prohibiting females from flying these days?

Not many, I think I never had a Femal Captain. Might have been captain. I think the only time I had a female captain was a UA 767 flight JFK-MIA. I have also had Female FOs on Chalks Ocean Airways Watson Island-PVD and also on an AA A300 BOS-MIA.

I would say yes (especially for the Europe).
For instance, in AZ the first lady to become a pilot was in '89 (now she is a Captain).

Can't remember a single time where I've had a female captain on one of my flights, despite traveling on a plane a couple hundred times. Maybe the fact that most of my flying has been out of SLC on DL helps to explain this.

Ciao 777,

I've only had one female captain, flight was Icelandair 752 KEF-CDG, very nice flight indeed. However female F/O aren't so rare: I've had one on SAS, flying MXP-CPH on M82 and Alitalia LIS-MXP on A321.

Ciao!

About half of my flights have had either a female captain or first officer. One of my UA flights was staffed entirely by women...pilots and cabin crew.

Yup. My smoothest landing was courtesy of a female captain. She was purty hot, too...  bigthumbsup

A few years ago already I saw a EI flight at AMS with an all female crew, both flight deck and cabin  bigthumbsup

And only a few days ago I noticed that the captain of KL663 to IAH (B737 from Privatair) was female too  bigthumbsup
