United Airlines EZE-MVD-EZE -- What To Expect?

Tue Dec 06, 2005 3:02 pm

So, next weekend a couple of friends (including fellow A.netter MD11junkie) and myself are going to Montevideo for sightseeing and having fun. United Airlines was offering the, by far, best fare, plus they fly a Boeing 767-300ER, so of course we booked them.

In terms of service, what should we expect? The flight lasts about 45 minutes, so I suppose that, for obvious reasons, we will not get a delicious immense meal, but something like a cup of coffee or a glass of soda. However, what interests me are the PTVs and Channel 9. Do you guys think both will be available during such a short flight?

Before you start wondering why the heck United flies EZE-MVD, let me tell you this flight is a tag-on from UA's IAD-EZE, which then continues onto Montevideo, where the aircraft spends the day before heading back home via Buenos Aires.

Anyway, any comments will be appreciated!

Saludos,
Marambio

Hello Marcos,

A few years ago I did the same flight, also for a spotting trip to MVD just for the day. I flew Pluna in the morning and came back with United in the evening.

The flight back is very short, block time was only 30 minutes so no drinks service on the B767.

Check (if still there) a preserved Pluna Vickers Viscount, just next to the terminal building. On the top of the terminal there was also a cafe with views of the tarmac. But there has been some construction ever since so maybe more points to look.

Have a great trip and take photos!

Greetings from a freezing Holland

Hola Sebastián,

Thanks for your feedback. We will be going to Montevideo on Saturday and will spend the night there, then going back to Buenos Aires on Sunday evening. United's timing was almost perfect - the outbond flight leaves EZE at noon, while the return leg departs from MVD at 20:30. Actually, due to Uruguay having switched to GMT -2 time zone, when returning we'll arrive before having left, as the flight lands at EZE at 20:20.  Smile

Do you happen to remember the loads on your UA flight? According to their website, it's fully booked, but it surprises me - usually these intra-South America tag-ons are quite empty, especially considering most people going to MVD chose to fly from AEP.

I do remember Pluna's Vickers Viscount next to the arrivals hall at Carrasco, but last time I was there (about 2 years ago) it was quite run down. About the café, let's hope it's still open!

Greetings from cool Buenos Aires, where it's 20ºC and sunny as I write.

Saludos,
Marambio

Hola Marcos,

You are welcome!

The flight was pretty full, most where Uruguayans including people living in the US. I remember that some were connecting at EZE to the other UA flight to Miami while others continued with the 767 to New York-JFK. Probably the same here, or when flights to Chicago begin.

I am flying United in January AMS-IAD-EZE.

Have a great time.

Greetings,

Sebastian

Como andan muchachos? What was the fare, just out of curiosity? I remember checking over a year ago and they were offering (as well as AA) something around 95 US$ round trip. Is it still the same?

Heck, that's one long flight! I suppose it was way cheaper than any other options, right?

American is charging something like US$ 95 return. On the other hand, United is US$ 50 plus taxes, i.e. US$ 62 return. This fare can only be obtained by booking at United.com.ar and you must stay at least one day (24 hours) in Montevideo. Actually, the whole fare (with taxes) ended up being 181,90 pesos, so you get the idea. Not bad at all when Pluna and Aerolíneas charge 540 pesos for the very same flight...

Marambio
