NYC-HKG... CO Or CX?

Mon Dec 12, 2005 11:41 am

I am going to Hong Kong in April 2006. I am flying from either EWR (CO) or JFK (CX). I would fly either BusinessFirst on the 772 (CO) or Business on the A346 (CX). Which would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Hmmm, never tried CO's BussinessFirst product, so I can't compare. CX's Business is quite nice, although I've only flown their 744s in Business. The seats themselves seem similar in that they are both slanted flat seats. The CX seat is comfortable enough, allowing me to sleep for a few hours this past summer going to LAX. I'd imagine Continental's seat can do the same. Dunno about IFE though.

I'd imagine CO's flight time will be shorter, since they use 777 and the Airbus is a little slower. That said, the Airbus is noticeably less noisy.

I like CX's service better, so if the prices are similar and frequent flier program isn't a factor, I'd go with CX.

I'll be flying EWR-HKG two weeks from now, albeit in Y. I'll be writing up a trip report, so you can take a look if you are interested.

That's a no brainer. Continental is inferior to CX in every aspect. I did fly CX in business from HKG to CDG, aswell as other intra Asian and intercontinental flights multiple times in economy, and Continental from BRU to EWR in BF. These 2 airlines just dont compare.

Are you serious?

CX by FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR. I fly CX despite not having status or need for oneWorld miles vs. my Platnium Elite with both NW and DL.

I've never flown either up front so I can't comment there...But from everything I've read, you can't go wrong either way.

You might want to fly CX for the opportunity to fly the A346...They probably won't be in CX's fleet for too much longer.

I do wonder if price is a factor, then again, if you're booking in Y, perhaps not

CO's service is nice, but nothing special. I haven't flown CX, but I've heard it compared quite favorably (and many would say to the better) of MH, which I have flown a number of times.

If CX service is just equal to MH's business service, there's no comparison. CX would win hands down. And I understand the CX lounges for your return are outstanding!

That's true, forgot about the lounges. The Pier and The Wing win awards left and right for a reason.

Damn! Tough choice. Personally I would like CX since they have a better product in Biz. BizFirst on CO is ok but CX is so much better. The problem for me though is I wouldn't get squat for mileage on CX while that one trip on CO would at least renew me as a Silver Medallion on DL and put me on the way to Gold or higher again.

Think of it this way...would you rather fly what has been given the "Best Airline in the World" tag or the one that is "#1 Out of Newark"?

Only if Delta goes under. Until then I have no incentive to direct my travel to another carrier where I have to connect for every flight. Living in ATL I'm shackled with those golden handcuffs.
