Candidates For A.net Prohibited Topics List

Thu Dec 15, 2005 3:37 am

Hi everyone,

I just registered on A.net, after living on the forum for years. This is a great day, and it's my very first post!

Anyway, I was reading the zillionth topic on the issue of PTV's on LH, and that made me wonder: why don't we set up a list of topics which should not come up anymore since they've been discussed to death? I'll start with a few which have been brought by a few folks in the mentioned thread:

PTV's on LH
NW's DC-9s
AF "clean appearance"

Any other nominations?

My votes go to:

A340 Climb Performance
(get over it folks...its not underpowered. If it flies, then rest assured its not)

Peter Max
(its a great 777 dont get me wrong)

Airbus/Boeing outperforms Airbus/Boeing in Orders
(if you care THAT much you have no life)

There are more, but those are the ones I dont ever read.

Smacks of American censorship. It's anti-free speech. It might lead to book burning. The Pound could be abandoned for the Euro.

Well, I hope this isn't a stupid answer in your book, but asking the forum if there are any PTV's on LH is like saying that the pope is Catholic..

"Why can't airline XX fly from XXX to YYY?!?"

"How to get a free upgrade?"

The notion that airline XX was stupid for ceasing service from XXX to YYY simply because the planes were "always full."

Not a topic, but "nonstop" means NONSTOP and "direct" only implies the same flight number from XXX to YYY but includes at least one intermediate stop and sometimes a change of gauge, too.
Ahh, the power of SABRE...

With the both of us being new users, I think we can understand how a new user must feel. Some of the new users might or might not have been reading the board before joining; so it's possible they are are not aware some topics on here are often brought up. And I think we should be as accommodating to everybody, especially new users, as much as possible.

Even for existing users, a smart person can always come up with a new angle on an old topic.

Mostly Airbus vs Boeing topic:
1 - A orders vs. B orders
2 - A340 vs. B777
3- A350 vs. B787
etc, etc, etc.

P.S. The options were named in alphabetical order (so that this post doesn't give an excuse for a new A vs. B discussion based on the fact that A was mentioned before then B)  Wink

You know, I agree with nearly all of the above.

However, I'd have to say that we should just not go into those threads and ignore them, no matter how annoying it is to even see them listed, because I'm betting that the people posting them are not as experienced in the industry as some of us who look at them and go "oh for Christ's sake".

Good God that was a huge run-on sentence, my apologies!

But you see where I'm going? Like a 16yo kid who doesn't know that AA once had 747s but phased them out because.....

Let's just bite the bullet.

I guess you could expect to be onboard an aircraft, and that you should get wherever you wanna travel eventually.

Hey! I actually want to know about those (but am too lazy to look it up, so you have a point!)

I think the Wright Amendment should be burned so everyone would SHUT UP about it. Seriously, even the "professionals" still talk endlessly about it (i.e. USA Today). Who cares if there's competition? It's not called a free market for no reason. Companies are expected to get trounced! Get over it!

Ok, other than that, here's some more:
-Which airport has/is XXX?
-"Mystery plane" over my house today - Anyone know what it was?
I second the Peter Max threads (why that plane? Why not the AA Astrojet or AS Salmon-three-salmon or LH Retrojet?)

And bad grammer irks me...a lot (especially using apostrophe's in place's like plural's)

My biggest pet peeve as of late--especially with the recent delivery of the first E190 to JB is: "Future JB Routes" and "First 190 Routes for JB" and "Where Will JB Fly the 190?"
Why don't we just wait and see together, shall we?

"What european destinations are next for CO"

"Why doesn't DL have more 777s"

Also, any and all April fools day posts should be banned.

I had suggested along time ago that topics such as these should be 'sticky' topics. We could pick the 'top ten' permanent topics (NW DC-9s, Peter Max, etc.) and have another 5-10 semi-permanent sticky topics depending on the news of the day (QF 787 order, Southwest MDW overrun, etc.). That way there isn't a new thread created every other day by those who are either new or simply can't read.

Honestly. I had the same question. Especially if it's the umpteenth QF delivery. Since when is QF rare in HNL, and if just about every delivery goes through there for QF, it's not exactly rare to see those either.

If you are gonna call em rare, at least make them rare!
