L1011, DC-10, DC-8 Or The 767-200?

Tue Dec 20, 2005 11:25 pm

Another poll...
What do you prefer? L1011, DC-8, DC-10 or 767-200(no 300 or 400).
This is my list:
L1011
DC-10
DC-8
and last but not least 762.
Operator!!! Give me the number for 911!!

I've only flown on a DL 762, so I don't think it's fair if I put in my two cents about preferences.

Aircraft I'd LIKE to fly, in order of preference:

DC-8
DC-10
L-1011
762

By leaps and bounds, the 767-200ER. Next, the DC-10 and then the L-1011. I have never flown on the DC-8, so I can't comment on that.

I would have the L1011 on the top but I have never been on one so the list goes as follows:

DC10
L1011
DC8
762

The one I would be interested in flying on but will probably never have a chance to is the DC-8. The DC-10 I am not fond of even though I have never flown on one, and the L-1011 does nothing for me really. The 767 is a good performer and an efficient aircraft, so my order is:

DC-8
767-200
L-1011
DC-10

4. DC-8
I'm not a huge fan of the DC-8 (No pun intended). I would rather fly the 707, but that is just my opinion

L-1011 - It is a great classic.
DC-8 - I enjoy a 1 story plane with 4 engines.
B767 - I also enjoy short fuselage planes.
DC-10 - A good plane but I never really liked how it is physically.
It's not just the destination, it's the journey.

Hi!

Unfortunetely I never flew on a DC-8!!! So from the other 3 here is my feedback!

L1011 - I had a full load of L1011 Tristar experience back to 1989 when I was around USA with TWA. I flew 7 times in the L1011-1 ( STL/LAX ), L1011-50 ( LAX/JFK/LIS ) and L1011-100 ( JFK/SJU and SJU/MIA/STL ). The plane was great in confort and with that special start of the engines noise!
DC-10 - I flew ORD/DEN and DEN/SEA on UA... I will never forget that the ORD/DEN flight was in N1811U still with old livery in 1998!!! The plane at that time was more than 26 years old! It was both great flights and the plane was very powerfull on take-off's
767 - I flew both 200 and 300 versions ( N601UA from LAX/JFK red-eye flight... and G-BNWR a RR 300 version from JFK to LGW ). I enjoyed very, very much the BA RR 767-300!!!! A very confortable and nice ride. I also enjoyed a lot the configuration of the plane.

L-1011 is an awesome plane. Big, open cabin design...

But 767 just cannot be beaten for 2-3-2 seating config comfort, beats 3-3 of the DC-8 and 2-5-2 or 2-4-3 of L-1011 and DC-10.

I have been on all of them, and ranking them depends on what you rank by, i.e. most comfort, wanting to fly on them, still in service or not, etc...

I did LUX-REK-BWI and back on FI's DC8. It was generally a nice flight (and of course I am happy having had the chance to fly on that bird before it retired), but it was pretty noisy, especially close to the galley.

I've been on the L1011 a few times with AC and once on TS - all very nice and comfy flights.

I did a few trips on the DC10 with DE, LH, UA, NW - and again, I loved them all!

Lastly, I think the B762 is the one that as most examples still in regular service (of the 4 mentioned), and I have been on a few with various airlines (also the 300).

Thus, just for the wish to fly them again, i.e. rarity, I'd go for

DC8
L1011
DC10
B762

I love trijets!

Cheers
