#1 Canadian Airline 2005

Thu Dec 22, 2005 6:02 am

As you know the year 2005 is coming to an end. With 3 weeks left of the year I was wondering what Canadian airtravellers think.

What in your opinion do you think to have been the Number 1 Airline in Canada during the year 2005?

This should be a fun one to see!!!

thanks

Probably Air Canada. Sure, they have had their ups and downs (no pun intended), but overall their service is far superior than that of Westjet and Canjet. Should be interesting to answer the same question a year from now!

Why is it, that Canada has only one major international carrier?? (AC) Canada is the largest country in the world, and in comparison ith the US they don't have many large international carriers. I can only think of AC and Air Transat.

Large by geography, not by population density.

Population of Canada is only 1/10 of US, so it would seem logical the US should have ten times the air service Canada does.

There was once competition for AC from CP Air / Canadien, but Canadian government basically forced the airlines to merge (or be sold and then merged), declaring both airlines would not survive the economic climate. At the time Canadien had been bailed out several years in a row to continue existence as a competitor to the former crown corp AC. Since ACs privatization they have also been bailed out. One could question if Canada could support a major airline through both good and rough economic times...

Air Canada has improved so much over the last few years. My vote goes to them.

Don't forget about Canjet, First Air.

If you have read any of my posts, you will know I love CanJet, and this is no exception. This year, I flew them quite a bit and never had a bad experience. WS is nice, but they lost my bags in YVR so that knocks them down. AC is wonderful (I flew their international service for the 1st time), so I will give second place a tie between WS and AC. Never flow Air Transat, so I can't say.
RIP Independence Air
