From The Americas: What Entry Point Into Europe?

Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:34 am

Just read this thread How Many U.S. States Have You Flown To? (by 767-332ER Dec 3 2005 in Aviation Polls & Prefs)

That made me think, could those of you living in North, Central or South America list what airports you flew into when visiting Europe? I think it would be nice to see what airports seem to be most popular for arriving transatlantic traffic among A.netters...

I normally fly into Frankfurt International. In fact, FRA is my all time favorite airport. They simply have it all: integrated trainstation for rail access; excellent stores for that last second gift you forgot; and some of the world's greatest bratwurst - not to mention Henninger Beer!

The last time I flew into CDG connecting from AA to AF traveling to NCE, somehow I never passed though passport control. I thought the airport was a bit dirty, but it was still roomy. Didn't care for Zurich all that much due to security, Heathrow is just to big, and Gatwick is out in the boon docks, Frankfurt is good all the way around.

I've flown to (directly):

LHR, LGW, CDG, AMS, GVA, FRA, MUC. Out of those, I liked AMS the best.

Well, almost always I fly into LGW. Usually takes less than an hour from getting of the plane to clearing immigration. I have only been hassled once, because I was visiting London for the day then flying to Dublin in the evening. Apparently, that raised some flags with them. I flew into MUC once and that was the easiest, quickest customs I've been through. Nice airport too. AMS wasn't bad either, a quick glance of the passport and that was that. Usually though, LGW is the cheapest so thats basically why I choose that route.

I've flown into LHR, AMS, and ARN (ARN via AMS but no customs or immigration there). I think AMS is the easiest - the train into the city is very easy and the airport is a shopper's dream.

LHR was deplorable by comparison.
