Flying Qantas What To Expect

Sun Jan 08, 2006 1:42 am

Hi All

Im thinking of flying with QF to SYD from LHR, is there anybody that could let me know what to expect in terms of IFE, Meals and the best seat (I will be in Y unless I can blag an upgrade).

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

IFE, on the 744 is pretty unreliable at the moment apparantley. There can be up to 5 resets during a flight.

The service on the LHR-Asia legs have been said to be the best Qantas service (operated by London based crew)

Thats all i can tell you.

That's what happens when you put Microsoft products onboard planes!

As an Australian, I can honestly say, I would recommend another carrier. QF service is VERY hit and miss. I had some of the rudest and most abrupt FAs on my BNE-HKG flight a few years back that would give AA staff a run for their money.

Their IFE (now that they finally have seatback TV) is supposed to be quite good (my sister was merrily amused for a good 10 hours FCO-SIN!), although as Pilotdud09 says, it's very unreliable.

If you are off to SYD, you probably have more choice in carriers than any other route in the world. Personally I would recommend VS (on this route you get alot of HKG based crew who are amazing!!) V:Port IFE is brilliant, and the A346 is so quiet, and the cabin is really funky. Seat pitch is the same as most carriers, 31-32 inches, although you can pay to get the exit row (row 33 IIRC) and there is huge leg room!! From a price point of view, there will be the likes of GF, EK, BR who often have bargain basement prices, but you get what you pay for. (remember EK's 777 have 10 abreast in Y....Eeewwwwww!)

Whoever you decide to fly with, enjoy your trip.

I flew Qantas SYD-LHR a few months ago. I thought they were very good. No probs with the IFE. Good food, even a menu in cattle class. Friendly and efficient crew. Clean aircraft.
Have booked them again for my LHR-SYD-LHR trip in April

I'll second this, although I was on SYD-MEL, Being my first QF experience, I was quite disapointed

Can I assume QF service is about the same for LAX-SYD, or LAX-BNE? I'll be traveling one of these routes later this year, and was wondering what to expect from QF. Some people swear by them, other swear at them. I flew MH last time (bit of a scenic route, but the price was $1300 less than anyone else) via TPE and KUL. I could afford an extra day to save that kind of green.

Same here, Air NZ now has a product to compete with QF so will be interesting to hear some of the feedback.

These are the 3 class layout. I think they only have the 743's with the 2 class layout on the BNE-AKL-LAX and BNE-LAX route, although, I think BNE-SIN gets them aswell.
