What To Expect Flying First With DL?

Wed Jan 11, 2006 11:05 pm

Quesiton for you all. I have booked round-trip tickets in first class on DL from Orlando to Las Vegas at the end of May. Aircraft for the four legs are 757-763-764-757. What does DL have for entertainment on the 763/764's? Do they use PVT's or is it just one big screen for the whole cabin?
Also, for you reservations people here, what does booking class "A" mean? I have that on my e-tickets. Thanks all.

Don't expect anything much. DL domestic first sucks. 75/76s have no individual screens, at least not the ones I've been on. They just have the ones above the aisle and show things like who's line is it anyway, CSI, that kind of stuff. Also, I can't remember if it's 2000 or 2500 miles but anything less warrants only pretzels. I'd definitely buy your own food. I've found DL F do be absolutely nothing special and if I weren't getting it for free I'd surely save the money and ride coach. Int'l business elite on the other hand......

The 767-400ER has PTVs, laptop power, and footrests.

Well, the ATL_LAS run shows lunch service and the LAS_ATL run shows breakfast service. Thanks for the heads up about it being pretty tame up front...guess I will have my Ipod fully charged to keep me entertained then.

I'm Platinum Medallion on Delta and when I flew to LAX from MCO in October I decided to fly Song instead of DL through ATL. Without a doubt the mainline Song product is superior to the DL first class product.

34 inches of legroom, personal video TV, food (paid for was better than anything you get in first) overall a better product and far superior value. I love the PPV option for the movies.

I paid $197 for the MCO-LAX-MCO flight, versus almost $800 through ATL. Arrived 2 hours earlier because the lack of a connection. Spend about $15 each way on food and movies and really enjoyed the experience.

I believe Song flies to LAS from MCO as well. That would be my choice.

Get seat 7E or 7F on the 764 if you can. They have more legroom since they get used as crew rest on Hawaii flights. The F cabin has PTVs but not a huge selection to watch. Food service is nothing to write home about and the drinks will be in plastic cups. The stewardesses should be pretty good though and somewhat attentive to the passengers.

I've heard the A fare referred to in two different ways. Originally I was told they were Steerage tickets that were upgraded to First at tme of purchase. Lately I have been told they are discounted First tickets so I don't know which one to believe. That said, I usually purchase these tickets since they are refundable, don't incur change penalties, and get you into First without having to wait to clear. Too many times I haver to change my flights during the week and was getting stuck with fees that made the ticket more expensive than buying the A fare to begin with. The prices on them have gone up some in the past couple of years but they still work out good for me.

I think they are discounted first tickets. I bought them online via the Delta website at the quoted price given for the first class section. While they may be discounted..I do have guaranteed seats in first or do I? They can't bump us out of there for people that are Platinum Medallion members or someone else can they?

Sorry for not seeing your question earlier. You will have a guaranteed seat in First and no Platinum can bump you from it if they are upgraded. I have seen a few Platinums get all hot and bothered because me as a Gold gets the seat they were expecting. If you miss your flight or it's cancelled, etc. you may not get First if the fare class is not available on the rescheduled flight. The A fare used to be not much more of a premium over the coach tickets but it has climbed somewhat in the recent past. I still get them since I get the F seat (I know, nothing to write home about), more MQMs, and the ability to change the flights which I almost always have to do because of meetings with no penalty.
