ATL To SEA Best Side Of The Plane To Sit On?

Mon Jan 16, 2006 8:49 am

Done this flight numerous times but I do not remember which side of the plane is best to sit on for looking out the window at landmarks, especially when on approach to SEA, what side of the plane will Boeing field be on?

Boeing field will probably be on the left, as most flights seem to be landing in the southern direction these days.

It is hard to tell since it depends on the winds in SEA. I would recommend the left side as RwSEA did as if you are landing to the south you will see Boeing Field and on downwind for the airport, you will get to see downtown. But that all depends on if you land in a southerly direction. If you land towards the north, there isn't really anything special to see, although if you are on the left hand side you can see Puget Sound and Vashon Island, which look cool from the air.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

I always lean toward the left  Smile Seriously, the typical arrival from that direction on the CHINS arrival has you scoot by Mt. Rainier fairly close and about at it's summit altiude (14,000), and even sometimes when it's cloudy that thing sticks up above it all. At sunset it's awesome.

I like the right for the natural attractions like Yellowstone. Pattern seems to go right between Teton and Yellowstone. I've camped so much of that country I like to look for old and new sites. I usually sit on right going up and back. That way I get both sides. As for approach to SEA, most are from the north so great shots of the Emerald city are on left before the turn then almost directly under you is the pier area and downtown after turning south. At least thats how it is when I go up each spring and fall.

During the winter it's almost a sure bet that landings/departures will be on 16L/R. That's the only time you'll ever catch a view of Boeing Field on approach, so the left side of the plane is the side to be on. Of course, if you're coming in on 34L/R, I'd say the right side is better because you can usually catch a glimpse of the city/airport before you turn finals...looks pretty cool at night! Odds are you'll be coming from the north, so go with the left side.

Im on Delta and took the left side, seems unanymous. Realizing its a night flight, probably doesnt matter much anyway.

Don't get too down about it. If our current weather forecasts are accurate, you probably won't even see the ground until touchdown.  Smile

I did DL 533 last Monday, ATL-SEA. I sat on the left side, had a nice view (although it was dark outside) of the arrival into SEA.

My advice - TAKE SOME FOOD with you. Damn $5 snack box has four crackers in it - on a 5+ hour flight. DL is getting cheaper by the minute.

Another individual who has no clue about what he's talking about. DL does not charge for food. Snack boxes are FREE in coach and typically contain crackers/cheese, cookies, box of raisins. Also, toward the end of the flight another snack service is offered and is FREE. The 2nd offering is a choice of Sun Chips, Granola bar, cookies, cheese/crackers, or peanuts. Both offerings include a full beverage service.

Guys its been raining for the last 27 days in SEA (so far it hasn't rained today but it probably will soon). Cloud layers have been pretty low and there have been very few let ups in weather before today (today was an exception since the clouds opened up quite a bit in the afternoon).

So at least recently it wouldn't have mattered which side of the plane you sat on, you'd have had a great view of a big grey cloud.

Just as DL does not charge for food in coach for snack boxes, I did AA LGA to PBI last week, they charged $3.00 for their snack box. Crackers, raisins, cheese and sausage stick and gold fish. Nothing was free except the soda and I hear thats gonna change soon to.

Question then is, what side of the cloud is best to look at, the left side or the right, LOL

I'm on the same flight, 533. Will be in first though, on 767-300. Got the bulkhead seat.

Obviously you didn't fly this route "last monday", because DL hasn't offered food for sale for over a year on this route!

Nice try though ...
