Put me a year in AMS
and I'd survive perfectly.
My day would look like this:
: Wake up from some remote area in the waiting lounges above B-pier. They have excellent chairs there, that are almost like flat-beds, and they are not in a Premium Area, which I assume I cannot excess in your "The Terminal" example.
7.15: Take a shower in Terminal 3; that would cost me EUR 12,50 but I would get the towel and shampoo, those might come in handy sometime. (I'd store them somewhere in my free luggage trolley - needless to say I pretend it's my like having an own Mercedes. Well, -ehh- sort of).
8.00: Why not having a champagne breakfast at "Bubbles" in the B pier. OK
, it might be slightly over budget, but sipping champagne while reading the morning papers (for free: read and replace them
) is worth the money.
9.00: Check the Internet what's going on that day - check A.net and arrivals/departures - .
10.00: Ok, time for a little morning exercise: start at the end of B pier and walk all the way to the end of the F-pier. It not only takes a while but it's almost half a marathon.
11.00: After my exercise, I need to relax a little. Why not visit the Masterpieces in the Rijksmuseum, for free. When you have nothing to do and nowhere to go you could spent hours watching Rembrandt's paintings.
12.00: Lunchtime, maybe I check the ATM of ABN AMRO bank inside the terminal, when I'm lucky there's some cash left, and I grab I nice baguette at "Boulangerie Paul", B terminal again. While enjoying my baguette I see planes taking off outside. Wait I minute: I happen to live in an airport!
13.00: So, this if life! At the roof of Schiphol airport I catch a breath of fresh air, while enjoying a nice view over the platforms and runways. I can even see Amsterdam on the horizon, if I only could go there...
15.00: Enough fresh air, time to get warm at "Murphy's Irish Pub" at the D-pier. The Guinness tastes great, and I meet some people that invite me to have another beer in the Heineken Grand Café "The Palace". I'd love to, but too much beer gets you into trouble. I'll go shopping instead, gaze at the new gadgets at the Electronics shop. Or just take it easy and read a book or two in one of the bookstores.
18.00: After shopping - and there's a lot to see at AMS
- I'm hungry. The "Bubbles" place is a bit over the top, so I'd rather check "Shirasagi Sushi Bar".
19.30: What to do after dinner? I might want to check my luck at Holland Casino - maybe I can win enough money to buy a ticket out, or just for having another shower tomorrow. Anyway, put all my money on Red, closed my eyes. Doubled it. Did it once again. Eyes closed. Red. Walked out as a rich men, with 60 euro's instead of 20.
21.00: After my gain in the Casino, why not having a beer in "The Palace" after all. Just grab another book at one of the book stores ("yeah I promise to return it later!") and watch the evening flights come and go.
23.00: It's time for a evening stroll, probably there is a LCC being pushed back from the B-pier still, or I check the Internet again.
Midnight: tired of another day in a buzzing place, I decide to head back to my flat-bed again (with my trolley off course). For a second I believe a lady just wished me a good night.
But the only thing I hear is... "mind your step"
