Ok I think this should be moved but I'll answer anyways. It sounds like you're flying Star Alliance and therefore, it depends what route you are going on. For example, SQ is better than UA on the routes they have in common. However, if you are flying a hub to hub route, it depends also what aircraft is flying because you could get, for example, a 777 ORD-DEN and so on. Therefore, basically, a little more info would be helpful for a more detailed comparison.

I agree with Daron4000. From my experiences, United tends to fly more 3-class cabin planes within the U.S. than US Airways does. Its been my experience that Business and First in a 3-Cabin plane is much more sophisticated than when you just have a two-class cabin plane...because basically a two-class plane is meal/no meal kinda deal....at least in my experience. Hope that helps, but give us more info if you can too!

Domestic first class is very similar on both of them. I can't really make a judgment on them.

Internationally only United offers first class, so obviously it is better.

On the A333s, US Airways has a very good business (Envoy) class which is superior to United Business. The A333s have 60 inches of pitch and there is also row one which is even nicer. However the US 762s aren't as nice.

The UA fleet is standardized and decent. It isn't anything special compared to the new designs recently developed by other airlines.

As one of the previous posters said, domestically they are equivalent with the following exceptions:

* any route with a widebody aircraft (usually hub-to-hub) will be better
* UA's JFK-SFO and JFK-LAX transcons are on an upgraded 757 with PS service and are far superior to any domestic service in the sky
* UA also runs "explus" service on some smaller jets which includes first class

Internationally, I don't think either carrier's premium service is worth going out of the way for. US's Envoy is probably on balance better than UA's business class since US only has a two-class product (which is a rule of thumb comparing almost any business class -- carriers with two classes usually do a better job in J). UA Business is pretty tired, with manual seats. UA First is pretty good, though not up to the standards of top international carriers like BA, QF, CX, and SQ.

Seeing that US doesn't fly ANY 3 class planes, this is true!

On the A330s US Airways has 60 inches of pitch an a good IFE system, however on the 767s, US Airways has a lower quality product with 55 inches of pitch. The US Airways 767s are far more "tired" than UA's fleet.

Since I've flown both SQ business class, and UA business class I would have to say that SQ has a better business class product mainly do to the new flat bed seats. UA doesn't offer flat bed seats in business class yet. As far as service goes both SQ, and UA have an excellent service in business class.

I fly UA business class often, and the service is great, but I haven't tried US AIR's international Business class service yet, only used US Airways first class service for domestic routes, and what ever service is offered (depends on the route), the service has been really good in first class.

I think United agrees since they use the SQ designed business class spacebed as a first class seat on their premium service 757s that operate between JFK and SFO/LAX. United has its regular business class on the 757s, but uses the spacebeds for first class, so there obviously is a big difference. Eventually we will likely see an upgrade to newer seats.
