Crazy Routings?

Thu Jan 26, 2006 11:09 pm

Last week on KL at MAN, i had a guy that had one of the craziest routings ever. He had flown PIT-EWR-MAN on CO, connect to our KL Cityhopper to AMS to pick up a KL flight to PBM. On his return he was taking a bit more or a direct routing vis POS on BW. Now to me that seems like one heck of a routing. I questionned the guy over why he was doing it, and he told me it was because Surinam Airways had decided not to fly to POS that week where he wanted to connect, and this was the only other way to get there!

So i was wondering, have any of you taken a crazy route to get to your final destination?

I met this Scottish bloke who did AKL-DXB-CDG (on EK) and CDG-Gabon on (AF).

Yeah, but out of choice. LHR to SIN. The routing: LHR-MLE-CMB-KUL-SIN.

If I ever go to Australia, I want to fly:

LHR-DAC-BKK-SIN-SYD-SIN-BKK-DAC-DXB-LHR.  Big grin

Is MAN-LHR-ORD-FSD-DEN-LAX Crazy enough?

Well, in fact tomorrow I'm flying EZE-CDG-AMS-JRO (Kilimanjaro, Tanzania). My return trip, next month, will be JRO-DAR-AMS-GRU-EZE. Flights are operated by Air France, KLM and TAM.  Smile

While not as crazy as the ones above, I was quoted this itinerary on US Airways to go to HNL:

SYR-PHL-DCA-PHX-PDX-LAS-PHX-HNL

Absolutely crazy. The fare wasn't bad, either. If I end up going, I may actually do it, if only for the mileage.

SYR-PHL-DCA-PHX-PDX-LAS-PHX-HNL

Why on earth would you go via PHX twice? Surely this was not something that US Airways proposed as a reasonable routing between SYR and HNL.

Please provide some additional info. Thanks, Andrew

Pfft, if it's cheaper than SYR-PHL-PHX-HNL, why not  Silly ? Especially if you get the miles Big grin .

I've mentioned this before, but I still enjoyed my JNB-NBO-DXB-MEL-CHC trip last year.

Few years back I did AKL-LAX-MIA-LHR-FRA-SIN-BNE-AKL in a couple of weeks for duty travel, and prior to that BRU-FRA-LAX-NAN-AKL. Very enjoyable!

Well, I would rather say a long routing, but not so crazy as EK don't fly to LBV... Except from flying DXB-DLA-LBV I don't think there are many faster options. Anyway, I agree to say this is the kind of routing you won't see everyday  Wink

I did this one a few years back

LCY-FRA-LHR-HKG-MNL-SYD. Not unusual you may say, but flew LCY-FRA on LH, collected my bags at FRA, and then immediately checked in at FRA for a BA flight straight back to LHR to connect onto HKG, total time in FRA was 2 hours. The reason - the ticket starting in FRA through to SYD was about £600 less than starting the itinerary in LON, even after adding a LH cheapie fare on LCY-FRA I saved over £500!!!!

My boss told me to get a air ticket for a "employee". Orbitz was the best price. But his routing is a bit odd... MFR-LAX-TPA-PNS (Total duration:11H 34M) and return PNS-IAH-LAX-MFR (Total duration:14H 00M)

$580.79 RT USD...Best price I could get. Other's where over $800.00.

I once had to book a passenger LLW (Lilongwe, Malawi) -ZRH-AMS-HRE (Harare, Zimbabwe) on SR/KL because there was no other way of connecting on the day she needed to fly between the two cities.

I originally had her confirmed on KQ but then when I requested her special meals, it canceled the flight LLW-NBO. When I called KQ they had never operated the route and someone screwed up when loading flights into Sabre.

LOS to SSG is a very similar situation, best way always appears to be via EUROPE!!! Go figure!!!

I booked a trip to Rome recently. I could have done LH DEN-FRA-FCO-FRA-DEN... instead I decided to take the scenic route in a few days.

Comair CVG-STL
Comair STL-JFK
Virgin JFK-LHR
Ryanair STN-CIA

Ryanair CIA-STN

When I was a student doing an exchange in Brasil, I did a backpacking trip to India - the cheapest fare (multiple tickets during peak season) ended up being GIG-GRU-BOG-FLL-MIA-ORD-MAD-FCO-ATH-AMM-BOM on RG.AV.IB.RJ combination.

Tomorrow I shall be flying LHR-MXP-JFK, then the next day JFK-FCO-LHR, I knew there was more of a risk going with AZ considering their current situation, but the ticket was £30-40 cheaper than a direct fare from LHR, and I get to try out my first B772 as well.

Later in the year I hope to do BHX-EWR-BRS-PLH, just for the hell of it, would be way more fun than 4 hours sat on a Virgin voyager train, even if it would take a little longer!

How about my DUS-FCO-MXP-CDG//CDG-FCO-MXP-DUS next summer (instead of just flying DUS-CDG-DUS and paying about half the fare)? Big grin

In 86' I flew from PDX to SCL.

PDX-SEA-BLI-YVR-YYZ-LIM-SCL

There was a 12 hour delay in Vancouver bringing the trip to over 30 hours.

Don't ever underestimate USAirways computer website's ability to propose some of the strangest schedules possible.

I was once offered ATL-SAN as ATL-PHL-GSO-CLT-PIT-SAN. I nearly did it just for fun.

Their website does some of the strangest things...

I did a crazy routing last year on a open jaw to and from Houston on NW:

Eastbound: LAS-DTW-BHM-MEM-IAH (MEM-IAH CoEx)
Westbound: IAH-DTW-IND-MSP-PHX

I just bought a ticket the other day on Delta to fly: LAS-SLC-BUR, a distance of 941 miles, and it cost the same price as a LAS-BUR nonstop flight on Southwest, a distance of 223 miles.

I always thought MH's KUL-JNB-CPT-EZE routing was sort of wierd when it could be one-stop through AKL or something.
