DL LAX-ATL - Is First Worth The Extra?

Mon Jan 30, 2006 2:50 pm

i'm arriving in lax on june 29 on cx 880 (arr. 21.50) from hkg and need to connect to atl. currently looking at dl 846 departing 11.30pm on the 29th (b767) or dl 560 departing 12.30am on the 30th (b757). my decision is whether to pay us$200 extra to fly first or not. any input from a.netters who've flown dl much appreciated. thanks. advice on connection times at lax also appreciated.

For only a extra 200.00 I say by all means upgrade to First! Im not sure if you will get any food on the redeye but it will be well worth it to have the extra space.

Well, I flew on DL 560 and we got a 777, so in all reality, it was Biz Elite. For a measily $200 (of course that is all budget issues for ppl) I would most definitely recommend it.

The 777 appears to have disappeared from this route so you won't get BizElite. If you're on the redeye I would of course say get First just for the extra room. If you get a 767-400 try to get seats 7E or 7F. They are used as pilot rest seats on Hawaii flights and have extra legroom.

For Delta's F service I would usually say that $200 is probably not worth it, especially since its a redeye, but if you're coming in from HKG in Y then it might be nice to finally have some comfort for the 5 or so hours to Atlanta.

For $200...definitely worth it....it would be better though if you could cash in SkyMiles (if you have them)...it's only 10,000 each way. If for nothing else, do it for the seat alone. If you get a meal however, other than the presentation, it's also worth it. DL's domestic F meals (the food itself) has greatly improved in the last few years!

i'm flying cx j, so comfort won't be a problem on cx 880 but would like to get a bit of sleep on the redeye and from what you've told me it sounds as if dl f is worth the extra. unfortunately all my sky miles have expired.

have any of you a.netters experienced both the 757 and 764 in f? if so, how do they compare? thanks for the input.

$200US. Absolutely! Even on Delta. Hell, I'd pay the $200 just for the extra seat and free booze. I'd drink $100 worth of the booze easy . . .  wink  drunk

Seriously - yes, take the F seat.

Personally I like the F seat on the 757 more than any of the 767 seats (BizElite excluded on the 763ER.) The seats on the 757 are a little bit wider than the ones on the 767. As I said earlier, if you can get 7E or 7F on the 764 grab them as they have more legroom.

The F seats on the 757 are 20.75" wide, while the F seats on the 764 are only 18.5" wide. I'm pretty sure they have the same amount of pitch. Either way, it's worth it  Smile

I say no. Take a Song flight if it's still around. 34", personal video at each seat, and even the buy on board meal is better.

While all of the above is true, song doesn't fly a LAX-ATL route. In fact, I don't think it has any presence in Atlanta at all...

They do. Just not a lot. The only current destination out of ATL on Song is Ft. Lauderdale. I thought they flew to more from ATL given the amount of Song logos in the main ticketing hall.
