Well, I've never flown a JAL 747 before, and only two domestic 747-400s in my life (I know, its sad  ) but I'm sure before anybody helps you out, they're going to want to know a little bit more about what your looking for. Are you looking for privacy, quietness, little abnormalities that give you an inch more seat pitch than the others seats? I assume you're flying Economy. The sarcastic response to your question would be in the upper deck or in first class. I don't know how JAL configures their 744s, because they don't seem to have a seat map posted anywhere, not SeatGuru or their own website, but some airlines do have Economy class in the upper deck, or at least a part of it.

Good Luck, I'm sure somebody knows more than I do!

Edit:

I've found the seat maps at http://www.japanair.com/e/aboutjal/seating.php , but I don't know which configuration your flight will be on. There seem to be a ridiculous amount.

Cheers,
Cameron

That's their American website which still thinks they use MD11s, which they don't anymore. And, it also has JALways seat maps and others.

Here's the 744 info from the Japanese website.

So, if you're lucky, you might even get yourself on the upper deck, if that is what you'd fancy. I would definitely recommend it.  Smile I've only flown upper deck economy on KE so far, so I can't really recommend any specific seat, but the window seats have the neat extra room due to the curveature of the fuselage, so I'd choose that one.

Maybe you should call JAL now and ask about the seating possibilities on that perticular flight so you wouldn't have to wait until check-in? Have a good flight!

732 must be the worst to jumpseat on because that silly seat that folds out from behind the flight deck door is not very comfortable but of course the experience makes up for it!

uhhh... I flew upper deck JAL this Christmas holiday, NRT > JFK. It SUCKED because my knees were jammed up against the seat in front of me. I'm 178cm tall, not a giant, but not short.

Just thought I'd warn you.

In the first picture (Version 1) I was in the seat labeled "H" in front of the emergency exit.
