B757 Vs B762 Trans Atlantic

Thu Feb 23, 2006 3:26 am

Jus curious, who prefers flying on the B757 over the B762 when going across the atlantic? Why?

I know that capacity wise the B757 and the B762 are almost similar but the B762 is a wide body and more comfortable but the B757 has better economics. But what's you're preference?

762 definitely!!

The 752 would be just too cramped for such a long flight. I would only go acroos the atlantic in a wide-bodied aircraft!

By far the B762, I fly Malev's B762ERs at least twice a year, very comfortable aircaft.

For some reason I have reservations about flying a narrow-body over the ocean. I know the B757 has ETOPS certs. and has a good saftey record, but lets face it, when it comes to transatlantic ops the B767 is the King.

I never flew transatlantic B757 but i did flew LADECO Airlines from YUL to SCL onboard B757 the service was super but the B757 was not very comfortable for such a long flight. What i cant understand that once i flew SU IL-62 from SNN to MIA and it was ok "maybe bcs of the Russian vodka"

Have you actualy tried it?

I thought this until I decided to fly EWR-BHX on CO, I actualy enjoyed the flight and prefered it to some widebodied flights!

I don't mind flying the 752 as long as it has sufficent legroom, 3-3 in Economy is quite cozy and nice  Smile

The 762 is only good if you have 2-3-2 in Economy, otherwise it's way to cramped!

I'd have to say I don't mind, it's the service that I would choose as the 752 and 762 are both great to fly  Smile

The 752's like a rocket during take-off Big grin

I'd take the 757.

As you said, the economics are better. That means lower fares and more non-stops.

I've done EWR-DUB & EWR-SNN. Comfort has more to do with the interior configuration, which is up to the airlines.

I've read on here that CO will be adding video on demand to the international 757 fleet. They will be even tougher to beat.

I have to disagree with you on that one. I have flown the 757 EWR-TXL in coach. It was beautiful, and comfortable - just as comfortable as a B777, and dare I say far more comfortable then any A340 I have been on (this is however through seat pitch). I don't know what all the complaints are about - this seat layout is similar to the B707 and DC-8. What is the problem with that? I would NOT hesitate to fly the B757 transatlantic.

Very true, but in the end I prefer the 2-3-2 seating, in that you're never more than one seat from the Aisle. So for me its the 762, but I would still consider the 757 depending on factors such as departure time, non-stop etc.

If the price is the same, I would choose the 762, I would not be the one losing money. But still the 762 is more comfortable for the passenger and for those hungry passengers I believe the galleys on the 762 are bigger than those on 757.

If I had a choice between the 752 and the 762, and money, seat pitch, etc. was not a factor, I would choose the 762. It seems like a much more comfortable plane, and I like the widebody feel. Additionally, I have always felt cramped in the 752s, but maybe that will change for international flights. I do like the takeoffs, but the 763 takes this one.

I've flown trans-atlantic on the 757-200, 767-200, 767-400 and 777-200 all with Continental, and prefer the 767-200 hands down.

It's a nice airplane, complete with PTVs in coach, which the 752 doesn't yet have. I like the 2-3-2 environment, yet the plane is still small, which makes it a bit more "intimate" if you will.

Then again, what's not to like about CO 762s? They are gorgeous in every aspect of the term.

The 762 may be wider but comfortable is up for debate based on the seats and the pitch. In First/Biz Class either one is fine. I've found the F seats on a 757 to always be a little bit wider than the 767. If I was in Steerage though I would want the 767 because of the twin aisle. I've done transcon in the USA many times on a 757 and it can be a pain to make a run to the head if the stewardesses are blocking the aisle with the drink cart. Never a problem with the 767 though,
