AA Or VS NY-LONDON-NY

Tue Feb 28, 2006 1:02 pm

I am flying this weekend to London. My first choice was BA, but my office travel did not book the trip in time, and now my options are American or Virgin. The good news is that on the outbound to LHR I have a day flight, thus I can avoid walking around Heathrow when it's 3 am in the morning for me. I have to fly economy... I have read many opinions including Skytrax and was not surprised by bad reviews for AA, but quite amazed at the many bad reviews for VS. Any feedback would be welcome. Many thanks!!!

Never have heard of Skytrax...

But AA atlantic service from their LHR hub is second to none...they fly only 772, how can you get a bad flight?!?!

Have personally done ORD-LHR-ORD and JFK-LHR-ORD flights. Excellent all around service.

Dont forget that people tend to only put their opinions on skytrax when they are bad. I have read some terrible reviews about airlines that I've flown with regularly which in my opinion are great carriers.

I would say go VS (obviously!!), good service (particularly as its a daylight flight) great entertainment, and decent food.

I've not flown AA, but lots of my colleagues have and had very poor comments, apart from the legroom. And of course on VS - you don't have to pay for drinks...

Because the majority of people have more criteria beyond the type of aircraft for judging how good a flight was!

I've not flown VS first hand but my girlfriend did last summer in place of her usual BA flights and gave it a big thumbsdown. 2hrs to get food out on a EWR-LHR red-eye is shocking, plus she said the service itself was amateurish to the extent it was cringeworthy. If it was AA J vs VS UC it'd be a different story but Y is Y is Y, and on Virgin it is a bad Y at that.

I'd go AA if I were you even though you won't earn any BA miles you can still use any OW status you may have. Booking at this short notice you'll probably end up with a high fare Y ticket so may benefit from enrolling in AA Gold / AA Platinum challenge. Google or search on the AAdvantage forum of Flyertalk for more information.

Choose AA.
VS is so bad in Y that i would not spend a USD on a ticket...
So now do you now what to do.
