Because the majority of people have more criteria beyond the type of aircraft for judging how good a flight was!

flights and gave it a big thumbsdown. 2hrs to get food out on a EWR
red-eye is shocking, plus she said the service itself was amateurish to the extent it was cringeworthy. If it was AA

it'd be a different story but Y is Y is Y, and on Virgin it is a bad Y at that.
I'd go AA
if I were you even though you won't earn any BA
miles you can still use any OW
status you may have. Booking at this short notice you'll probably end up with a high fare Y ticket so may benefit from enrolling in AA
