Have You Jumpseated/cockpit Visited After 9/11?

Tue Mar 07, 2006 12:29 pm

Disclaimer: This is not to start a discussion on whether if it's right or wrong. For neutrality's sake don't mention the airline unless you really want to.

I sat in the cockpit of an MD-80 while waiting for the runway and taxiway lights to turn back on after a power outage after boarding. Had a nice chat with the pilots, they were watching Pearl Harbor in a laptop resting in the throttle quadrant. Very appropriate Big grin

I don't ever cockpit visit but made an exception in this case. Especially as a call was made for me when taxiing after we arrived.

Yes on an NZ domestic flight in 2004. We have more relaxed security rules so it was heaps easier to get the magic yes. Apparantly only staff can now do it

I visit the cockpit on most of my flights on the big DL birds to chat quickly with the pilots. I've never met one who didn't mind a visit from a passenger interested in what they were doing.

This pic was taken on a 764 from ATL-MCO late last year.

I have visited the flight deck many times once the plane has come to the gate.

Never had the Qantas or Virgin Blue crew say no yet.

Many times...AFTER the flight landed.

LAX-ORD I flew in May, 2004, choosing a routing of SAN-LAX-ORD to connect to a 747-400 (before they're all gone domestically). Made friendly contact with the FA's, and I got a tour from end to end of that beauty during flight!

After landing and de-boarding, I was the last passenger on the flight. My now good friend FA took me up to let me take a picture. I figured it would just be a quick open-the-cockpit-door-and-snap-a-picture, but no, I got to sit in the jumpseat!! I was ecstatic.

My last trip to Hawai'i was SAN-SFO (757), SFO-HNL (777), and HNL-ITO (737-200). First class SAN-SFO and SFO-HNL, and cockpit visits to both. The 757 had the pilot give me a quick tour (short turn-around time), but the 777 had both pilots in the cockpit, and I told them all about the joy of airliners.net, and how much I enjoyed civil aviation. We talked for a long time, as I had a LONG connection time and the pilots weren't flying anywhere else that day.

Coming back, I completed my Boeing tour by visiting the cockpit of a 767-300. I very much wanted to compare the modern cockpits with Aloha's 737-200's, but quick turn-around times did not allow for that.
