Want To Fly On The 777...

Sun Mar 12, 2006 12:15 pm

Hey guys,

Alright I recently got this crazy idea in my mind, I've always wanted to fly on the the 777 so I thought I'd fly MIA-DFW-MIA just so I'd get a chance to do it, I'll spend a couple hours at DFW and then come back, yeah all on the same day. So have any anyone ever done something like this before? Do you think it's a stupid idea?

Thanks

I think it's a great idea. As a matter of fact I have done it many times. I am retired from American Airlines, now living in Japan as a missionary. I flew from DFW to Europe and Japan many times. Once I was going to Zurich and my credit card got jammed in an ATM. So I had no money. I decided not to go to ZRH but then decided, as much as I love flying on the 777, why don't I go to London. It meant I would have to come back immediately as I had no money. So I did and that was the first of many trips like that. I highly recommend it
Have you kissed a 777 today?

I did the same exact thing last summer; in one day I flew LGA-DFW-ORD-LGA on AA just to fly the 777 on the DFW-ORD segment. If you love airplanes like I do then it is totally worth it!

Nothing wrong with that at all. When I travel, I always choose odd or circuitous itineraries if it means traveling on a new airline/aircraft or visiting a new airport.

Two weeks ago, I went to Milan for a long weekend... I could have taken the nonstop Alitalia ORD-MXP flight, or flown a simple ORD-LHR-MXP on American and British Airways, but instead I flew ORD-BRU-MXP-ZRH-LHR-ORD, traveling on American, SN Brussels, Swiss and British Airways. Much more interesting, and I got to fly the ARJ-100 for the first time!

Back when I used to fly Southwest more frequently, I always tried to schedule myself on multi-stop routes. For a simple trip from Dallas to Los Angeles, I flew DAL-AUS-LBB-LAS-LAX-ELP-HOU-DAL. For a Chicago to Raleigh/Durham visit, I flew MDW-BNA-RDU-BWI-CLE-MDW.

No shame in trying to fly a certain aircraft - I think everyone on this site understands.  Smile

I don't think you're crazy. I've done it a couple of times: ATL-LAX-ATL on a DL 777, MIA-DFW-LAX-LAS-DFW-MIA with 3 segments on an AA 777, MIA-DFW-STL-DFW-FLL with one segment on an AA 777, and lastly this coming Wednesday I'll be on an AA 777 doing MIA-DFW-STL-DFW-MIA.
To fly, or not to fly: that is the question

Not silly at all . . . I've gone out of my way to fly a specific aircraft type - as recently as January on this trip just to ride an E170 . . . .

I think it is a great idea. Flew ORD-SFO-DEN-ORD and ORD-IAD-ORD on a UA B777 recently. Also, DEN-SFO on UA B747! Enjoy. Make sure to write a trip report.

Triple 7 Man, shoot me an email regarding your occupation.

Enjoy your 777 flight... I am jealous. The biggest plane I have flown in would be a USAir A333. Nice plane, but it's NOT a 777!

No - but maybe posting this question in a Trip Report forum wasn't the brightest thing.
