Best Business Class Name

Fri Mar 17, 2006 4:17 pm

After traveling many times in business class onboard different airlines ,i believe that the best name that attracted my attention is MAGNIFICA class by Alitalia. What are the best names for business class?

I always thought "Raffles" on SQ has a nice touch of elegance and history about it .

Does UA still call theirs "Connaisseur" ? Have had varying opinions about whether it lives up to the name - but it is a classy name

edited to add: BTW shouldn't this be in Polls & Prefs ?

Club World is it for me.. Or even better, when the crew or agent just casually says "Club"  cloudnine

That word sums it all up in a way..

I agree with you here, "Club" is the best. In fact, such is power of the marketing of that class, that in the UK many people refer to other airlines business class products as "Club".

The most significant to me is also "MAGNIFICA" Class ! That's a great name, more original that all those boring "XXXX Club" or "XXXX Club".

One of my favorite remains the UTA's Business Class name : "GALAXY"

My favorite is "Business Class" by Lufthansa. It best describes business class.

The worst one is "Pearl Zone" by Etihad - sounds ridiculous.

How about MH's Golden club class?

9W (Jet Airways) calls J as Club Primiere

"Club" is an accpeted word afterall.

My favorite is "Business Class" by Lufthansa. It best describes business class.

But it doesn't best describe what LH brings to business class, since so many other carriers use the same exact name for their middle cabin. It's German efficient, but not distinct branding.

BusinessFirst by CO is far better, because it says many things:

It's business class (duh)
We treat business class like first class
It's as good as first, but we charge a business fare
Our airline cares about your business first and foremost
At our airline, the business traveler comes first

Not too many other names have that many ways they can be read.

I also like Club World, which speaks more to the old world business club life style. It makes you feel part of something friendly.

I think Upper Class is meant to be pretentious and it does it's job. Not sure it is meant to imply a business class, or just a class that presents luxury and prestige, though.

BusinessElite tries to be pretentious, too, and fails. Just sounds pompous.

Raffles is a nice name, but loses it's meaning for people who aren't familiar with it. It's definitely an "in the know" kind of name.

Executiva is to the point, and more formal sounding than business. Are there any airlines that call their product "Executive" class?

Envoy is a cool sounding name, but it's more political than business, really.

Affaires may sound cool to non-french speakers, but it just means business in French, so it's no more innovative than any other airline with generic business class naming.

Emirates calls theirs "business" on the English site, but do they have a more interesting name in arabic with more meaning?

Business Class. A simple name used by many airlines. It isn't confusing and is clear and to the point. It is quite difficult to keep up with all the airlines out there. I honestly thought Club World was economy the first time I heard it.

So are you implying that Mr. Executive earning 7 figures a year should find time to research what the names of the different classes are? haha  Smile

I agree with "Raffles" on Singapore, it means much more to those folks that have walked
around, or had a stay at the Hotel. I like the tie-in with the City ,the Hotel, & fine service.
Also , I like the fact that its not an ad agency "made-up" thing.  twocents

raffles is definitely great. even for those who dont know the significance, it still sounds classy and cool! on a side note, what did PanAm and TWA call their various classes? did they have special names for them or were they just economy, business and first?!

When I started at TWA, first class was called "Royal Ambassador class," business class was called "Ambassador class" and coach was called the main cabin.
We actually had a signature Royal Ambassador cocktail, Grand Marnier, Mums Cordon Rouge and oj.

business/first was later renamed "TransWorldONE."

Quote taken from the Matrix Revolutions:

"I have sampled every language, French is my favourite - fantastic language, especially to curse with. Nom de Dieu de pxxx de bxxx de mxxx de sxxxx de cxxxx d'exxx de ta mère! You see, it's like wiping your ass with silk, I love it."

I don't speak french, but I do know quite a bit said is pretty offensive...hence the "xxx's" Don't want to offend anyone or get kicked out  Silly.

Now, I would have to vote for the name L'espace and I like Business Elite by DL. Nice ring to it.

I like "Envoy" - I think it's only used on international flights so it seems like a good use of branding. A bit pompous perhaps - but this is consistent with the marketing of most premium products.

I think a single word/name for the product (i.e. Envoy or Raffles) sounds better than the Upper Class, Club World, etc.

Main Entry: en·voy
Pronunciation: 'en-"voi, ÷'än-
Function: noun
Etymology: French envoyé, from past participle of envoyer to send, from Old French envoier
1 a : a minister plenipotentiary accredited to a foreign government who ranks between an ambassador and a minister resident -- called also envoy extraordinary b : a person delegated to represent one government in its dealings with another

My least favorite are the hybrid names like "BizFirst" etc... no imagination.

I got a kick out of the "World Traveller" branding when I last flew BA. At first I looked at my ticket and assumed I might have received some kind of inexplicable upgrade. Although it was coach, my flight was excellent (this was 1998).

If I had it my way, 3 classes would be addressed as follows.
First: "First"
Business: "Envoy", "Raffles", etc
Economy: "Economy"
