What Airlines Are In Need For A New Livery?

Mon Mar 20, 2006 2:53 pm

Hi there,

I was wondering what airlines you think should get a new livery.

For me it´s:
Air France
Lufthansa
Qantas
Air Mauritius

cheers,

I think cargo airlines need to have better liveries so they can be seen. Look at these:

I agree completely here, but couldn't disagree more on Qantas: this has to be one of the most timeless and classy liveries around.

Others who badly need a makeover: CSA, Singapore, every Chinese airline, Kenya Airways (yes, the new one), Delta, Olympic, Egyptair, and several of the former republics of the USSR.

a timeless classic ..don't you dare touch it ( or if you must then restore it to the original SQ midnight blue/yellow scheme without the gold stripe on the fin and cheatline ) ...I am still in mourning for TG's classic scheme which has been disastrously UPS-ised.

In dire need of a new scheme SN Brussels - please remove all associations with the ghost of Sabena .

I think CO needs to update theirs. They could easily modernize the existing livery to make it look just fantastic.

I want to agree with you, but I just can't imagine AA in a different livery. What they have now is pretty much timeless.

I think Korean Air needs to update theirs. I don't like certain blue they use, and it's gets very monotonous after a while. I'd love to see them do something with it.

I also think Ibera could do something really cool also.

Besides, with an increasing number of composite parts in future airframes the AA livery won't look as good any longer.

If AF or IB go for a new livery, they should choose something that doesn't show dirt as much.

I honestly wish that LH would go for the A321 retro look on all their aircraft.

As a New Zealander it hurts me to say it but I really think NZ needs a new look (keep the koru on the tail but sort out the rest)!

DL (the new one)
SQ (sorry)!
BA (have never warmed to it, bring back the old one)
MA (what is with the nose)!
AI (very dated)
CA (boring)
EK & ET (I can hear the screams of outrage)  Wow!

Anything that resembles a bird or arrow. Can't they be a little more imaginitive?
for example
AR
OS
KU

Someone stop me! There are some that I like, I promise!  Big grin

Although BA's one is ok, I think they could do with a much better one!
It would be brilliant if they could incorporate their 'To Fly To Serve' Royal Coat of Arms as they did on their previous Landor livery.

I think the above could be incorporated onto the tail on this BA livery below, which is an updated version of their current one.

I never knew GA had a new livery... Only thing I can find in the database is their old white livery with Garuda on the side and A Garuda on the tail.. although it really represents Indonesia, I think it's old and could use a change.

EEEUWWW! Thats awful.

The current BA is far better.

My votes for carriers most needing a new livery:

AA (it's NOT timeless .. its TIRED!)
SQ (Blecccchh. and enough with the stupid names like MEGATOP)
VS (Redesign of the tail area -- looks ungainly and clunky - bad design)
I turn Tops into Bottoms.

I absolutely LOVE AA's livery. It would totally break my hear to see it changed.

On the other hand, I was sort of meh about NW's old red / grey livery, but the new silverish-white is pretty spankin good looking.

AA's and CO's both look nice, and both have been on their planes for way TOO long.

That said, CO's might be the nicest looking livery going. It's just very dated.

AF is in need of new livery, as is Singapore. AZ might be the worst of them all.

NW's new white and red looks a lot better than their gun-metal grey they had for a while, after the grey/red, but before this white, that was really ugly.

KLM also, overdue.

People don't like Lufthansa, but I think it's very timeless, kind of like CO, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to see it go.

I've never found VS attractive (kind of tacky). I feel the same way about Emirates.

I think Qantas isn't bad though.
Saudi Arabian's palm tree and sand tail is kind of rediculous.

I agree with bringing back the old British. Now their tails look like Delta's (Delta needs another new one as well, by the way).

I like AA...but too many composite parts these days sort of ruin the look. I'm not sure what a new AA livery would look like ... I think a modern interpretation of the "Astrojet" look would be neat, perhaps with more red, white, and blue.

CO has a great tail, but the rest of the design is a bit too stoic '90s looking. It needs a little flair to freshen up.

NW's livery is actually a pearlescent silver color, not white. I'm assuming the livery you refer to is the "bowling shoe" livery with red on top and the grey band across the mid fuselage.

KLM actually refreshed their livery somewhat recently. It's not a major change, but the dark blue cheatline is now thinner, and actually looks a bit cleaner.
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

One of the best looking liveries in the United States, hands-down. I'm in whole-hearted disagreement. Funny how most of the liveries mentioned here are pretty good looking ones that have been around forever...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only airline that springs to mind for me is Asiana, simply because I think brown is a terrible base color for an aircraft that isn't flying low-level troop support (which by most accounts, Asiana isn't).

Maybe It's just sentimental but I like Garudas current livery, I guess It's just that wave of excitement that used to flush over me when I'd see the Garuda bird prior to boarding the MEL-DPS flight I've taken a few times... I guess the following image could be applied to look good...

Personally, I'd like to see Qantas do something more with their livery rather than just update the "SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA" titles... I think something that would look killer sexy is a 744 in the Retro scheme (Circa 1970s, 747-238B)

AA has the only bare metal livery; they can't change it, it would be like taking Katie Courick off the Today Show (oh wait, she is leaving  mad  ). It's a unique livery that most definately IS timeless. And as for the 787s they're going to order (or have they already? I can't keep track), I say cover them with aluminum foil and paint on that, so bare metal lives on!

My votes: top five

#1: AA - Old and boring, IMO
#2: IB - See Above (Zzzzz)
#3: B6 - To me it looks like it's trying to be something it's not. (more of a LLC look)
#4: US - I tried, but after seeing for my own eyes a 757 in n/c I just don't like it.
#5: ME - Still looks like the -Express days, a new image would be nice.

I Love IB colours, I hope they don't change them at all. One thing I would love to see though is an IB340-600 with a theme painting on it. Something that would represent Spain.

Also I hope QF doesn't change theirs. I love the flying Kangaroo.

Absolutamente. Iberia has such a classic livery. I wouldn't want to see it changed at all. It is one of my all-time favorites!

If anyone needs a new livery then it is BA. The current livery they have is the worst one yet. Tacky.

LH could do with an upgrade as well - I really loved the retro-livery they put on an A320 the other day. While I don't expect them change to something that tasteful, they could do with just a dash more class in their otherwise drab livery.

AA should also change livery soon. They'll have to sooner or later. There won't be made many planes with metal skin in ten years or so asides from the B777. I suppose they could paint them metal if they *really* want to keep that livery. I'd recommend a change though. It is *far* overdue IMO.

cheers
