Unserved Markets At Your Airport

Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:25 am

Just thought I would throw this out to see what some of you out there think.. make sure to supply as much information as possible..

For RDU..

F9 to DEN.. 346 daily pax..
Attempted by UA but since they only use RJ at RDU, wouldn't work.. UA have E70, not sure if that would work but they haven't attempted it again, so...

YX to MCI.. 248 daily pax
YX pulled from RDU early 2000's.. since then, travel has changed.. clearly 2 or 3 daily on the FR328 could be made...

WN to PVD.. 274 daily pax
American Eagle attempted this route but the aircraft was required elsewhere.. with 4 daily flights, the flights were pass the 80% mark.. could easily fill 1 or perhaps 2x daily flights..

?? to Bay.. 596 daily pax
SJC attempted by JI and AA during the tech boost.. traffic has picked up to pre 9/11 levels. Largest pax base of the West Coast destiantions. Perhaps Virgin America? otherwise.. UA if they ever decided to at least bring 1 mainline aircraft back to RDU.

?? to Mexico.. ??? daily pax
After the large influx of Hispanics into central NC, some direct air traffic could be warranted. To which locale is unknown. Some if business, but the assumption is that most is leisure.. perhaps TOL to Guadalajara?

There is no non-stop service from MSP to:

I know some of these (i.e. ONT) used to have service but no longer do.

The Asian market is the only underserved market from ATL. Only KE to Seoul and DL to NRT. Everything else is well served thanks to DL (Europe, North, Central, South America, Africa, Caribbean...)

BFL to DEN and DFW. If FAT can have two airlines (F9 and UA) flying RJ's, BFL should be able to support one airline. AA was also successful with BFL-DFW for many years - an Eagle flight should be able to fill in where the MD80 couldn't.

LAX, SFO, SLC, PHX, & LAS are well covered, as is IAH with three flights per day. It's just hit or miss.

SAN-International Destinations.

Yes, Air Canada is returning, but their A319 is not a RON flight, and will not arrive at YYZ in time for connections. I hope it is successful. Also, AC Jazz is going to fly two RJ-200's to YVR - again, I hope it is successful, but that's an awful long time be stuck in that sardine can!!

Other than our Mexico destinations Big grin , I really wish SAN had at least one long-haul flight - preferably BA back to LHR, or LH to FRA.

And finally...

SAN-BFL or SAN-central valley.

Anything to avoid LAX or SFO.

Here's another one..

EWN (New Bern, NC)..

?? Regional Jet to JFK or EWR
?? Regional Jet or TurboProp to IAD or DCA
?? Weekend service to MCO

NYC or WAS can be 1x daily.. but the service is really needed..

There used to be a 1x monthly 737 service to ACY on Casino Express..

PHX with WN and HP/US the domestic is covered really well. PHX is supposed to be the 5th largest urban area in the states, it also has no flights to the Asia and needs another flight to Europe perhaps Paris or Frankfurt.

IAH has no non-stop service to

New Zealand or Australia

But otherwise pretty much excellent non-stop anywhere you want to go.

From BOG:

Argentina: Only 4 weekly flights by AR and AV. There should be allowance for two daily flights for each country.

Europe: The only well-served market is Spain, and France has decent service.

- Germany: Huge trade with this country and not even 3x weekly flights to FRA, 1/3 of the pax in LH´s CCS-FRA pax are connecting from Colombia, many pax also take AF and IB. (AV quit in 99 and LH in 2001)

- Italy: 2nd biggest destination in Europe for Colombians right now, not even a weekly flight. 3x weekly to MXP or FCO would be fine.

UK is another underserved market but not so important. Others are the Benelux and Switzerland, though much smaller.

Canada: WE are doing fine right now with AC´s 3x weekly A319/767 operation, but we should have daily flights to Canada next year.

From MIA.
MCI and PVD. Also maybe some more West Coast cities? SAN,OAK?
Also Asia just NRT really. And a flight to Africa which should be coming back soon with SA. Ireland is another one too.
