So How Is Lufthansa's New Business Class?

Hi guys,

I'm flying out to DFW in a few weeks time, (FRA-DFW on 340-300). This flight should normally be fitted with the new C class.

I just wanted to hear from some of you what the "flying experience" is in this new seat that looks definitely very comfortable!!

Does anyone have a list of registrations of which a/c have the new business class? I understand that all the A330's and A340-600's do, but what about the older A340's and 747-400's? Any list by registration available?

I have heard a lot of negativity about the IFE ....I can't speak for that because on my one flight in LH new business class ( HKG-MUC) I spent so much time sleeping comfortably that I never really bothered to look at the IFE . I have never slept so well on a plane before - not even JNB-SYD in QF skybed . Whether that was a one off because I was so tired I dont know - but I would love to repeat the experience a few times to give you a more accurate response ... anyone care to sponsor my research ? Big grin

Here is a very detailed trip report that I wrote about a year ago after flying ORD-FRA in the new business class on an A333 with pictures.

Overall I really liked the new business class. It is so much better than the old seats that didn't have very good pitch. The seat is angled, which is good, but not as good as the fully flat offerings by VS etc. It is similar to SQ Raffles Class.

As for the IFE, there is a horrible design problem with the headphone system. I don't know if it has been rectified, but the plug is located way down into the armrest and can easily pop out in flight. It takes a very thin and dextrous hand in order to connect it again. It is so frustrating, and I know flight attendants didn't like it either. But I believe that they are working on a fix.

The IFE itself isn't bad. It is on demand which is nice although the interface isn't the best. It is kind of slow, but is quite capable. It did crash during my flight however, so it isn't a very robust system, but it is still better than nothing at all.

Also enjoy the service. The Lufthansa crews are pretty good even though it takes them a very long time to perform a meal service since they are a little understaffed. At least the food is pretty good.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Anyone know at what point the new C class is installed? I hop I get it on my flight!! Lufthansa.com d'esn't help a lot, it says "Currently a major part of our long-haul fleet is already equipped with the new Lufthansa Business Class.
These aircraft are mostly in service on our routes to Asia and North-America.
However it can not be guaranteed, that on certain routes aircraft of this type are always in service"

That doesn't help a lot? Any list of newly fitted C class planes, or smth like that?

AFAIK the refitting program on the 747's and A340's has been suspended for about a year now and not been resumed yet. Quite remarkable as the introduction started in late 2003.
Has something to do with design malfunctions in the IFE-system.
On the LH-website it's written that the program should be completed by spring 2007 but I highly doubt they will manage that.
I will fly FRA-BKK in C in a few weeks time but won't hold my breath on flying in the new C-class.

So I guess you might very well get the new C-class to BKK. Most flight from FRA have the new C I understood.
