I live right near 1B9 which is about 30 miles south from KBOS, under the approach path for 4R, and as far as in-cruise flights go, I am under the big skyway over BOS. flights over me are usually headed to JFK, EWR, IAD, PHL, or any other big east coast destination. Aircraft? A330s, A340s, A310s, 747s, 757s, 767s, 777s, and business jets. i sit out on the deck with my scanner, map and binochulars, and tune into Boston Center. planes headed to JFK/EWR usually start to descend over us. the list of variuos airlines is long, but the most commmon are BA, AA, UA, CO, DL, VS, LH, AF, US etc. etc. the most exotic is the rare Thai A345 and SQ A345. there is also royal jordainian, aeroflot, TAP, SAS, and the lst goes on. A lot of times on a clear day u can see up to 10 contrails, most headed south and 2-3 headed west. I could go on with a lot of sightings which are rare for here. (somewhere like heathrow and the exotics are lined up for miles) it is so great to here "...Virgin 45, cleared to FL290, maintain 290 kts..." and then be looking at the plane thats communicating.  cloudnine  In the evening it goes from european arrivals to mixed to all east coast departures. (during the day planes come in from europe, then reverse on the evening/night flights back) it cool to see the same plane headed north at FL370 that u saw going south 3 hours earlier at FL360. When the planes come for the Approach to 4R, they are usually around 8000ft. generally east coast traffic. heres a link to a radar i use for the boston are. also, quite a bit GA traffic due to 1B9 which is my home airport....

Happy spotting!  wave

Here in the PHX area we get a lot of contrails for SoCal traffic, especially between SoCal airports and Texas airports.

Back home to the east of MSP, in December I was watching one day with binoculars and using flight aware, and I saw an AF B777 from CDG-MEX, and an AA B777 from somewhere in Europe to DFW. Otherwise, there isn't a lot of traffic that far north, except for things from the northeast and DTW headed for SEA.

Here's a shot from right now.
WN Flt 1821 PHL-PIT, 39100ft, over my house, in York, Pa.

(Sorry it's a poor quality shot. Using my Canon A75, at 10X digital)

My glass is neither 1/2 empty nor 1/2 full, rather, the glass itself is twice as big as it should be.

Usually in the morning, we have a lot of "rush Hour" traffic, westbound, over our house.
Most of the traffic heading west from PHL, EWR, and some from JFK. Also, in the afternoon, we see a lot of the heavies coming in from Europe to IAD. The flight path for the inbounds to IAD go right over my house. Usually somewhere between 2-3pm.
York, Pa, is definately "flyover" country!
