What To Expect On Delta ASA CRJ200?

Mon Apr 03, 2006 10:48 am

On June 12 I have a flight to BRI from MFE. Now, I have never flown on a Regional before, except on an ATR. What can I expect on the 2 hour flight from MFE-ATL, and also what can I do at MXP on a 6 hour layover?

-just info, my flights are MFE-ATL-MXP-BRI-MXP-ATL-MFE
leave on 6/12 and arrive the 13th.

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. If you are 6' tall or over expect to be cramped with headroom. While the pitch and seat width is pretty much the same as mainline DL the headroom is a killer. If you get the window seat you'll feel a little bit more cramped due to the curvature of the bird.

Servicewise you can expect a drink service and snacks. I haven't been on a DL regional flight since last June but we got drinks, refills, and choice of crackers, cookies, and such from the basket passed around by the stewardess.

I bet you have to buy your snack if any are onboard! Get yourself a good salad or sandwich before you leave, even before you get to the airport and oh yeah, enjoy the CRJ. Smile

IIRC they do not have BOB on the RJs. While I would guess you will get simple snack service of chips or crackers you might get the bigger box with some crackers, cookies, cheese spread, and a few other little goodies but I would bank on the first one. Of course, if you think you can't make it 2 hours without eating get yourself something at the airport. Heck, I fly First Class and I still grab a couple of bottles of Cok for the ride despite the drinks and snack I get onboard.

As someone who's been flying a lot more ASA than I would like to over the past 3 months, here are my views (as a small 5'6" guy):

Legroom is poor in all rows. The exit rows have about an extra .5 inches, but the padding is thinner. Seats are also a little narrower than on mainline planes in my experiences (I normally have a little wiggle room on a mainline plane, not so on the RJ)
Snacks are the typical Delta lot. Regular drink service, plus a smaller snack basket (the last few times, it's been peanuts, granola bars, cheese and crackers, and maybe one more thing).
Storage space is tight. I have a reasonably large briefcase and it gets in under the seat, but does take away a little underseat storage space from my seatmate (there's a reason Medallions get Zone 1 boarding...get that space first!). Overhead space won't take much either.

I don't know what CRJs you all have been flying on, but the ASA CR2 I flew on had plenty of legroom, and I'm 5'10". However, the seats are narrow and anything larger than a small backpack will have to be gate-checked. However, it is a quiet ride and the service isn't too bad (I don't think you will starve on 2.5 hour flight with some pretzels and a Coke). Just remember to duck when you board!

If you're in seats 1A or B, you'll probably get a deafening sound which sounds like rushing air (probably is). I had this happen on a Comair CRJ-200 flight recently & wished I had earplugs with me. It wasn't too bad while in climb or when the F/A was in the galley, but other than that, it was loud.
