The vflyer site is strictly for the pro Virgin crowd and you will rarely find any criticism about the airline from the fans on their own site!
If truth were told, my flights on VS
were among the worst that I have ever experienced. I was annoyed by the cabin crew's attempts (on both flights) to be comedians and poke fun at passengers and at safety regulations. Whilst this might be acceptable if the service was good, the service was anything but good. The cabin crew all came across as amateurs, fresh out of training college and bottom of the class too, and I dreaded to think how they would react in any emergency.
I am only 5' 10" and found the seat pitch unbearably uncomfortable. I was assured that the pitch was the same on BA
, and even more restricted on some charter airlines, but I could only get comfortable by sitting bolt upright and still. The IFE box under the seat in front would not allow me to slip my legs under, and the seat barely reclined, so I was in agony after an hour or so, and there were another 9-10 hours before landing!
Selection of drinks was limited - IIRC there was only Virgin's own brand in some spirits and all mixers, and only one branded beer. Water is served in the smallest cups (eggcups?) I have seen, and constant requests to the flight attendant for a refill or a small bottle of water or soda can were ignored.
There was a mix up with the meal service as a result of which only vegetarian meals were left by the time our row was served. The vegetarian meal smelt awful and was very inedible - just one taste was enough to put me off.
Whilst the IFE was good, and many passengers were obviously impressed by it, I found the constant plugging of Virgin products and services most irritating. Fed up, I picked up the in-flight magazine and it seemed every second page was hype about the airline or some other part of the Virgin Empire! By this time, all I wanted to do was get off and get on a BA
plane. Give me professional service and better seat pitch any day over an airline with better IFE and amateurish cabin crews.
