Most "obscure" Airline You've Been On?

Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:31 am

Obviously, this question is open to debate in terms of how "obscure" something is, but for fun, name the strangest, least common, most foreign airline you've been on--to you, for example if you live in Helsinki than GOL might be your most obscure, but not if you live in Sao Paulo.

For example, since I live in Phoenix, my most obscure airline is Air Malta.

Definitely Champion Air here, MSP-PVR r/t in March 2001. Everything else is a scheduled US-based carrier so they aren't that obscure, although a majority of people haven't heard of Sun Country either, my second most obscure airline.

Has to be Bouraq Surabaya - Den Pasar for me.
Worst airline experience ever too. They let us wait for over 8 hours for another plane to come, since our scheduled plane had a broken window in SIN (no idea how a window (passanger window that is) can be broken though)

Has to be Horizon Airlines in Australia; I flew this airline from Cooma to Sydney back in 2003.

In 1973 I flew betwee ALB and Los Alamos, NM. I cannot remember the name of the airline. It was a small twin engine prop. Tikal Jets in the mid 90s in Guatemala from Guatemala City to Flores.

I know it might not fit into the real definition of "obscure", but for me it was EUJet... simply because it was from the fairly dead MSE !

PanAm III BLV-GYY over Christmas in 2000 or 2001. It was obscure because the airline only offered a couple of flights out of the St. Louis area. I wanted to experience the extra legroom and the hot bread and cookies for the in-flight service.

I wasn't disappointed on the first part as there was more room...OOPS...that's another airline altogether! Alas the only thing served was soft drinks, so I was disappointed on the service.

Transavia, back in the day they codeshared with Continental at LGW for the short hop to AMS. Great little airline, but my traveling partner at the time kept insisting on calling it Transylvania Airlines.  silly

Hmm...I haven't been on too many obscure airlines, I guess the most obscure would be Olympic Aviation, flights around the Greek islands in the late 80s with the flying box car.
PARIS, FRANCE...THE BEIRUT OF EUROPE.

i'm not sure about obscure, the two most exotic airlines i've flown have been CAAC (before they subdivided into all those different airlines) in China, i had the joy of flying on a TU-154 (can you say scary?) for two legs. there's also Kenya Airways from London-Nairbobi on an all Coach A310 from London-Rome-Mombasa-Nairobi.

I've also flown on a couple of airlines that sadly are now deceased, notably Western (great airline) and Eastern (another great airline) and Braniff (the original flying colors, complete with leather seats, again great airline)
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

Most obscure would be Air UK (considering at the time [1992] I lived in South America).

The next ones would be FlyMe, Fly Nordic, and Blue 1 (coming up this summer).

For me it would be TAME which is a division of the Ecuador Air Force on a 727.

Others would be RenoAir, Air Tahiti and probably some others I can't think of.

Most obscure airliner that I have been on would probably be the Tu-154 on Aeroflot.

Live in England.

Most obscure in terms of being foreign - America West probably!

Although obscure in the usual sense - probably Aero Airlines, a partner of Finnair. Flew Helsinki-Tallinn on one of their ATRs.
