Welcome to A.net!

The loudest airliners are nearly all phased out now, but some of my favourites were:

Trident
BAC 1-11
F-28
Caravelle
1st Generation B737's
VC-10

Enjoy the club!

The F-27 was a pretty loud one - with its RR Dart engines .. GREAT sound tho!

But I suppose the Viscount would have been louder since it had 4 of the same engines !

Does anyone know a site where there are vids of these a/c ? I've been on flightlevel350 - which is a fantastic site, but no vids of any a/c with the RR Dart engines on it (Ie F27, FH227, Viscount, 748, YS11 etc)

Wld appreciate any help!

I remember United's Caravelles and Delta's Convair 880's at MSP. Those thing were smoky window rattlers.

These days, I think the older MD-80 (DC-9) series of aircraft can still blow out my ears. Strangely enough, it was an Asiana 747 that was landing at LAX 25's a few weeks ago, when the captain firewalled the throttles for a moment and blew out the ears of many people underneath.

Quite an experience! Big grin

Any afterburners has a wonderful sound!!!!! to me

Non afterburners...... any JT8 at -30C..... the crackle is wonderful... and I get to experience it everyday at work!... along with the F-28

Edited.... to clarify, it's not -30C everyday were I work, although some people may think so  Silly

Cheers

I heard the CONCORDE take off and land hundreds of times very loud but I guess the foot print was not very large.

Don't forget about the 732! A very very unpleas..Ahem...Pleasant airplane to listen to. Ilyushins make a wonderful screaming-screeching noise too.

Hey Nick,

Welcome to A.net. Enjoy your stay!

For me it has to be the VC-10, Concorde, the early 747 classics and a lot of the russian ones like the Tupolev 154. The VC-10 is incredible to hear taking off. Such noise and smoke.

I always found the 727 and 737-200 to be quite ear-ringing!  wideeyed  I guess the older DC-8's too before they got turbo fans.

the loudest that I have heard personally is the 727, since YLW is pretty small, we don't get much variety. Last night at lacrosse practise a Purolator 727 took off right over head of us, our coach was going over strategies on the board and he had to stop for a minute as it flew over as no one could hear a word he was saying.

Here, Here,

I remember one time; about 10/15 years ago I was spotting at LHR when suddenly there was this loud roar and from out of nowhere came this Vc10, smoke pouring from behind, what a wonderful sight, turns out it was the British PM onroute to an anti pollution meeting somewhere, what a great advert for Britain.

I still reckon the loudest tho was seeing/hearing a Vulcan leave the ground, WOW was that loud.

Over my house in AKL, the 727 always makes it's presence heard.

The Gulfstream I and II will both make a deaf man wince. A DC8 with the original engines is not exactly subtle either.

The MD-80 and the DC-9 are very loud aircrafts.
