Allitalia I agree with.
I like the new AC paint job
I think Air France needs a new paint job, or maybe just clean their planes
FedEx would look far better if they updated their paint and made it metallic.

Alitalia I also agree with...
I think that the new AC color scheme is really good looking...much better than their older one...
I think LH definintly needs a new color scheme, maybe when they get the A380? We can only hope...
I also think South African could use a toon up it is slightly boring to me...
Also...this is off topic but why are all the new color scheme's going towards white...ie UA, US/HP, Delta (well they have been white for a while)

This isn't a fact, just a theory  scratchchin  :

Maybe the white color is to resist heat absorption on the ground over a darker color, which means they can turn down the A/C and save some energy....

This could be somewhat true, or a complete pile of sh*t... take your pick

Not in all cases of course but it does indeed help and some airlines do this for that exact reason.

That was the main reason behind the recent US livery change following the HP merger. With hubs in PHX & LAS; the old US dark blue scheme (though nice looking when new) would have been a bear to contend with.

Any Southwest plane. When the new Canyon Blue fades it's worse than the sand scheme.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned AF. Although their livery isn't ugly, it's not very eye-catching. Even if AF cleaned their planes more often, their livery is still...well...boring.

Take a look for yourself:

The French are marked for their national pride. I would like to a livery that said: "Look! Look! This airplane is French!" Just like Aer Lingus has made their livery very Irish, I think AF should make their livery very French.

Why changing a livery when it reflects the identity of an airline ?
Just changing for changing ?

Air France HAS a logo. And AF's livery is timeless.

And I don't agree with you about AF, and other legacy carriers.

The livery is the identity of an airline.

You may like their livery or not (that's another subject) but LH, IB, AZ, AF are part of the Aviation History.
Just by seeing their tail everybody can say : this an AF/LH/IB/AZ aircraft.

What would like ? that they adopt one of those ugly colored strange liveries, designed by one of these so called "Communication/marketing " expert agencies ?
Look what happened to BA, or Delta few years ago when they changed their colors ...
Even "SN Brussels airlines" or "SWISS" kept on with the "tradition", when they restarted after SABENA and Swissair demisses, by keeping most of the livery of their legendary parent.

Air France was formed in 1933 and can be proud to have changed its livery only once in its 73 years of history, plus some minor ajustements.

It went from this :

Then, for the inauguration of the first Supersonic Commercial service with Concorde in January 1976, Air France adopted its "new" colorscheme, painted for the first time on Concorde F-BVFA :

AA, AF, IB, AI, AZ, LH etc are all clasic, and brand recognition is expensive...

AR, JJ, LB, AC, VS among others have just no reason to destroy sky beauty than way...

I think:

1) olympic( looks to old)
2) LAB( looks old and simple)
3) Mexicana ( to simple i dont like the new one)
4) Aeropostal ( to simple... plain)
5) Portugalia (to simple... looks old)

Air France I think ........it can stay like that...!!!
there are many others that need an urgent change!!!

Asiana! The livery looks like military planes. Definitely the ugliest of the Star Alliance carriers IMO. I like TAP's overlapping letters, although the white everywhere else is kind of boring. But it's way better than dull grey!

Why mess with perfection, AA has always had bare metal a/c with the exceptions being the A300 early on, and any a/c in a hybrid/transitional livery (AirCal & Reno Air mergers come to mind immediately.).

In today's era of higher Jet-A prices, the few hundred pounds of weight savings definitely makes it worth the time and money to keep them polished. If you look at the bare metal belly of a DL a/c, the older ones are very dull as they don't maintain the shine like AA does (although I did notice that many of the ex-TW birds didn't get much of a polish when they were put in the AA livery).

I think DL could use a bit of a tweak, maybe ditch the bare metal belly for a gray one (like the DL Connection a/c) and maybe a solid color engine nacelle with the widget or the Delta titles on them.

Many of the airlines mentioned already don't need entirely new liveries; a tweaking of them perhaps, but nothing really major. AF and LH have classic liveries that really don't need much refining. AZ perhaps a different tail, maybe using the DL "Wavy Gravy" tail as something to base it on, but in it colors of the Italian flag. Someone a few years back posted a fantasy AZ one that was based off of the 1997 DL livery, it looked quite sharp.

I believe it will have a new livery in a very short time (their logo and corporate identity has already changed; for much worse, if you ask me). Just look at their website: http://www.asiana.co.kr/

Unconfirmed design candidate is here:

Everyone says that AA's livery is timeless. And while that may be true and it does look good by the way, I think it will be rather intriguing to see what a new livery for AA would look like. But I guess as they say "if ain't broke, don't fix it."
There is something special about planes....

I love the Canyon Blue scheme. I wish WN would hurry up and finish repainting the fleet. The other day I was at BWI and at the time most of the WN aircraft there were in the old scheme. It sort of gave the airport a really drab look. The planes were all faded and old looking, even the -700 models. Things started to look up once the Canyon Blue birds started rolling in.

Quoting CO7e7 (Reply 21):

Amen to that Brother! The bare polished metal look is always nice, but the cheatline has gone the way of the Dodo. The livery has been around for more than 30 years IIRC and REALLY needs to be updated.

North America:
WN...without a doubt the ugliest scheme on the planet (blue or gold).
AA....just worn out and old looking.
AC....not too bad but lacks pizzazz, especially the all-metal look
YX....while it is not too bad I think they really need to get something besides the blue, just too dark
WestJet....plain, they need a logo or moniker to go with.

Europe:
AF....would be nice to see somthing new besides dirt
SAS....boring
AZ....boring as well but expect to see something DL flag like with the Italian colors when they can afford to make the changes.
Air Berlin.... saw one last year and thought to myself "Are they still in 1974?"
EasyJet....Ugly Orange....looks like a Creamsicle

Asia:
Malaysia....tired grey underbody
Air India....boring and 1970ish
ANA....try something besides baby blue

There are a lot more but only ones that come to mind.

AZ planes need a good clean. The livery looks excellent on the MD-80S but on the newer models it looks dated and needs changing. No Italian flair. Same with Air France. Malev could do with a more interesting livery
