I Think Delta's Website Is Tops Of US Airlines

Fri May 26, 2006 4:24 am

Havent been on Deltas site for about a month. I already thought is was among the best of any US airline. They have made some slight changes that, in my opinion, have definitely made it the best, easiest-to-use of any US airline. when booking a flight, I get all information that I could want right in one screen. not every airline does this. recently I have used US, UA, AA & CO's websites to compare. Its just so easy to get around in!

again just my opinion!

No, can't be. Everything about Delta is bad, bad, bad. And everything about Jetblue is good, good, good.

Could be better. My one complaint I can think of right now is the inability to change my itineraries online. There is a button for it but every time I press it it says I can't use it and I must call in.

I was able to make changes online with NWA two years ago but never on DL. Being a GM makes it a bit easier when I call in since I always get someone who knows exactly how to make the changes I need and I'm done in 5 minutes or under.

I also wish they had a way to look up award trips using just partner airlines online. To use my miles on SQ which I'm trying to do right now I have to call into the SkyMiles desk which takes time.

Other than that I think it works ok.

What? Their Route Maps Suck!!! Go to the AirCanada site and see how route maps should really be done. Doing work in GIS, ESRI could have a real solution for this problem DL has, but NO ONE there will listen.

I am a very frequent flyer on DL. I am able to do changes about 8 out of 10 times. The times it wont work for me has been aon int'l & when I have called in to make a change to a ticket I booked online. but other than that its been pretty good to me.

I prefer more text based websites when I'm dealing with text information like airline flights and such. Thus for me, I prefer CO or AA for USA domestic airline sites.

But as a graphic based airline website goes, DL has a pretty good one.

They all basically provide all the same information on the front page, though in very different ways.

Oh, and DL route map thing SUCKS. how many clicks do you need?!

AA kind of sucks too. Where we fly is not that helpful if you don't know the routes.

I prefer the interactive maps that show actual routes in a couple steps. Otherwise the oldfashioned maps like CO gives that show all the routes on a map you can scroll around show the best information. No confusion.

The not-so-frequent and leisure flyer can find them VERY useful. AC is very close to being a US carrier since they dominate the trans-49th flights. With or without the comparison to AC, DLs route maps on their site SUCK!!

I think they might have load problems on some of their more specialized functions, like itinerary change, and seat map selection.

I get the "not available" error message often with both functions. The folks on the Medallion line have always been helpful, though ... and unlike the "peon" line, they're actually here in the US !

 Smile

Another thing that baffles me are the number of itineraries booked for me (all domestic) that the system insists I can't list for an upgrade on ... yet when I call in, it's "No problem!". Maybe some bugs there ...

But to a general peon looking to book a flight? It's a darned good website to use; easy to navigate, easy to use.

ESRI has a solution for Delta on that one, and they could provide information to flyer's of all walks, be they the frequent medallion status type or the ones who take a leisure trip once or twice a year. As a GIS using professional and geographer by academic degree, I pride myself in understanding such information. I hope DL does something to drastically improve this feature.

I hate in DL website that you cannot book online if you are not leaving from a selected number of countries.
Example:
I cannot book online a DL flight from SJO to ATL even if DL flies their own metal to SJO. That is really horrible.

I get the "system unavailable" with the seat maps now and then but I never ever, not ever!, have been able to change my itinerary online and I purchase all my tickets online for business or pleasure travel. I don't know why and given my access to the Medallion desk over the phone it is no big deal.

For the route map thing it is kind of an annoyance since you can see what city pairs match up. Playing devil's advocate here though thos mapps can ridiculous to read if all the routes are on there at once. An interactive map like SWA or JetBlue where you hover over a city to see what routes it has would be nice. But then hovering over ATL would be a nightmare for viewing so I guess you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

its so funny how I say how I think the site is great for booking a trip, giving you all the information about your flights and options to very easily filter out certain things. yet all the responses I get are entirely negative and none have to do with the functionality that "average" people would use to actually book their flight. I understand the routemap deal, but thats such a tiny portion of any airlines website, seriously. geez.. I guess this board really does want the widget to die. oh well. guess Ill have to fly them twice as much now!

I don't really like DL website. I think US new website is better than DL. DL website is at the bottom or near bottom of US airlines.

I do think that the new map on the website is kind of goofy. I mean, whats with the little arrow looking things? They have a blue dot for mainline, a horizontal line for codeshare, but an arrow for Connection? Why not just make it a vertical line so it forms a + over the blue dot. But oh well, it still does the job for me. It's above and beyond better than the old.

You know why that is, don't you? If we make it fully functional for you, you may not be enticed to keep that Gold Medallion status(if you were in danger of losing it) and will still be inclined to make any mileage runs to keep that status and giving us the money. LOL Well, makes a good anecdote, doesn't it?

It does make a good anecdote. Of course you also know through our conversations before that DL makes a lot of money off of me with my refundable ticket purchases. Honestly I can probably get faster service through the phone than I could online because I'd get halfway through the transaction and then distracted by some question on A.net like DL 732 or NW DC-9 retirements and then it would time out while I ranted to some newbie to quit asking those questions.

Oh crap, I just realized I asked a question a few weeks back about the 732 retirements. At least it didn't start with "Damn those things are old (they aren't really) so when will they retire them?" but rather asked an intelligent question about fleet management.

Take it for what it's worth coming from a crowd of airline geeks. Of course we are going to nitpick. I do know who's website really sucks...Ryanair. I was looking at cheap tickets between Frankfurt and Rome and I gave up on their site and just decided it was worth my sanity to pay more on Alitalia.

Now that you mention it, when does everyone think that Delta will be retiring the 732's? I mean, those things are really old, and although nostalgic to fly on, must be awful gas guzzlers. And when they are retired, what will Delta replace them with? Any guesses? Uh oh, oh my, look at what I've done! banghead  LOL

Although I do wonder what DL plans to replace them with sometimes at night, but I can honestly say I don't lie in bed at night wondering about it. Then again, this thread isn't about the 732's tho, is it? Bash away Gator!

Delta has one of the better websites of the U.S. carriers, the pics of the destinations make it quite nice. If you want a bad site you should try www.united.bomb

I think I found my problem with editing an itinerary. I suppose I should have read the explanation a little bit more..."This itinerary cannot be edited online because you may have checked in for some flights, or the schedule for certain flights in this itinerary may have changed."

I almost always change my return flight so if I've already flown the first leg or checked in then they force me to use the Medallion Desk to change the flight. Less of an annoyance now but NWA did let me change it once I flew the first leg so DL should allow it as well. Just my  twocents

DL website is one of the easiest but nothing is perfect but I will give it to them, they continually work on it. As far as US carriers are concerned I do think it is among the best if not the best but then again I have not drank the Kool-Aid. In the past year I have found that FL's is very good for easiness and clarity.

I guess if I drank some Kool-Aid then B6 would be TOPS and it would be KING OF THE WORLD!!!

Of the major US carriers the one in need of repair the most is AA, they have got to do something about it soon.

Just my 2¢

I still think www.nwa.com is by far the best, easiest and has the most functionality. Especially with flight status.

My second favorite.. is probably Delta.

Delta's really sucks. I don't know how you think its great. It has serious limitations.. for instance.. you can't search by fare AND schedule at the same time.
