Do You Believe All You See On Here?

Mon Jun 05, 2006 11:42 pm

Comments made by people about airlines

Do you believe all you see about them?
Would you not fly an airline because of the comments enthusiasts make?
Would you report enthusiasts to their companies about if some information was wrong?

Post what you think, do you think all is to be believed on here?

I just partially believe the comments made by peoples, say 30%.
I will still want to have a trial of an airline even enthusiasis comments are made.
But sorry that I will not report any enthusiasts to airlines.

I will change this to OPINION. So would you report someone for their opinion of an airline to their company?

The hardest thing to do on this sight is to determine what is legit information, what is someones opinion based on their own experiences and knowledge, and what is just complete crap. Far too many users have grand illusions that they know more than everyone else, including the aviation experts, airline execs, industry watchdogs etc. Its this attitude that leads to flame wars, confrontations and other things of that nature. As a moderator information has been taken and used against (twisted) against other users as well. Pulled in a manner for one user to get another in trouble for whatever reasons. Too many times I've had to remove posts at a users requests because their comments were taken out of context and problems ensued.

This site is a wealth of information. You just have to have the patience and ability to sit back and find it.

Kroc you're right.

The problem arises when people who should know better, knowingly circulate inaccurate information.

In this situation, especially where people make them selves identifiable they have to face the consequences.

If I take comments regarding AS as an example: There are many who complain about Alaska's service, many who praise it. I've been flying on Alaska my whole life (40+ years) and I can honestly say I've seen both sides - but the good far outweighs the bad. So I don't doubt a horror story, but I don't like the generalizations that get slung around.

Perhaps I'm not a very demanding flyer, but I seldom have a "bad" flight, service wise. What I see are usually hard working FAs trying to do their best. When things get rough its usually because a passenger has unreasonable demands, a poor attitude, poor flight etiquette skills, want to violate the rules, etc etc, just plain rude individuals.

And sometimes those bad personality traits and behaviors come through loud and clear in their posts.

I wouldn't take one bad comment here about an airline I've never been on and use it to plan a trip. If there is some sort of general consensus from many, well I'll consider that. At the least if I were to make a trip on the discredited carrier, my expectations would be low and I'd have no reason to complain if they were met.

Report somebody to an airline, their company? Based on what I read here? Would have to be some sort of life threatening comments or something, but even then its probably just b.s.

I always believe what I read on here, don't you?  Smile Kidding of course. I do however value the opinions expressed most, knowledge provided by a true subject matter expert, they are pretty easy to spot, and enjoy the bantering with fellow aviation lovers.

Thanks to all that make this a fun spot to hang out and enjoy watching the TRW+ moving into Houston today and can't wait to see just how that will impact my flight this evening from IAH.

I love to fly, I love airplanes and I love the airline industry. I try to fly on as many different airlines and aircraft I can just because I am an aviation enthusiast. Even though I myself "dislike" certain airlines, I don`t take other peoples word for a certain airline offering a bad product or good product, I like to make my own opinion of it. So, most of the opinions given on this site are quite irrelevant to me. But thats just me.

No. I don't believe everything on here....

I believe you should try an airline first before passing judgement... there will always be people who like or dislike airlines for different reasons.

No. I might tell the enthusiast he/she is mistaken, but would never turn somebody in.

Isn't it a matter of personal expectation? I was heavily criticised for my comments regarding Maxjet, and while some may find their service fantastic, I stand by my comments because they didn't live up to what I expected in various areas. That doesn't necessarily mean that you wouldn't enjoy flying with them. So in that respect, it's better in my view to make up your own mind by trying the carrier in question.

Having said that, I try and read trip reports here before flying a carrier I haven't previously flown, especially those with pictures. This is especially useful if there are different reports from different people for the same carrier; it sometimes gives a better cross-sectional view of the service. I haven't rejected an airline based on that, and I hop that I remain open-minded enough that I never will, but it does provide something of a reference point for when I actually do fly.

Heaven's above...NO way in Hades I believe everything I see on a.net. I do, however, prefer posting on this forum and trip report vs. the Civil forum. You could be Chuck Yeager posting facts over on Civil and some wise ass arm-chair aviation 'expert' is going to pick apart every single keystroke of his post. Regardless of content.

I am new to Airliners.net but 30 years in the corporate aviation and a Premium Level Freq Flyer.

Me too, I participate in various manufacturer and civil user sites and they can be extremely detailed as the topic may necessitate. This forum offers a good blend of professional & user & non-industry participants. I feel qualified enough to determine which comments are valid. I enjoy reading the points made but would not base my decision on whether to fly or not from what I see here.

Nope, I listen to peoples verdicts about airlines and flying and take them on board but when it comes down to pure fact I only pay attention to certain A.netters unless it is their speciality

No.

What people say about an airline is their opinion. All airlines have bad and good crew, and if you happen to get a bad crew on a particular flight then that will dent your image of that airline (same goes for good crew vice versa)

E.G. SQ may be a 5 star airline but I know of people who have had crew that are not as friendly or polite as they could be. That doesnt mean to say that they are bad.

And also, there are many not so good stories about carriers like AA or AZ, but I'm sure if you have a great crew on the day, you would think wonders of them.

At the end of the day, its luck of the draw material, some airlines are more consistant than others, but they all have their good and bad.
