The Most You've Paid For A Ticket

Sun Jun 18, 2006 2:09 am

What is the maximum amount of money you've paid for a ticket?

I've paid about GBP700 (US$1295) for DXB/IAH/DXB.

What about you?

I paid about US$7,200 for a business class ticket from New York to London a few years ago. Believe it or not, that was not the full business class fare!

$619 for my CID-ORD-LAX-ORD-CID roundtrip last weekend. Upgraded to biz with miles...not terrible, especially for buying the ticket less than 2 hours before my flight left!

Damn... I could have multiple European vacations for just the cost of your airfare! I assume it's worth it?

My most expensive was a walk-up one-way domestic F class on CO DAB-EWR at $300 or so

$2,000 to fly QF from LAX-SYD-LAX. I left LA at 1pm on winter solstice and arrived in SYD at 10pm, the day after summer solstice. Spent Christmas and Boxing Day on a beach in Sydney and I was in Melbourne for New Years Eve (real millennium 2000-2001). Christmas/New Years is the most expensive time to fly to Australia but it was worth every penny! Oh and I flew in coach....... At least I was able to charm the reservation agent into reserving me a seat in the emergency exit row both directions. It was heaven and right next to the galley......beer supply.

That same flight would have cost me a little over $700 during the off season.
I'm leavin on a jet plane. Don't know when I'll be back again....

Personally- $475 for CLE-DTW-PLN-DTW-CLE on NW (the flight is actually in August of this year)

For a flight I took but my company paid for- ~$900 CLE-FWA

I may not have anyone beat on a pure dollar basis, but I think $ per mile in economy, I may be a winner (CLE-FWA was about $2.25 per mile round-trip).

Me personally ? I think it was SYD-BKK-FCO-LHR-FCO-BKK-SYD on QF in J - can't remember how much is was, but it was quite a lot (I was contracting at QF at the time and got a very good fare, but still) - worth it though, I was only going to the UK for two weeks, so had to fly straight through to save time.

The company paid EUR7800.00 for a business trip NCE-MXP-TNR-MRU-DXB-SEZ-CDG-NCE. I think I will be in the doghouse for that for years to come, and will be made to go to Tajikistan for extended "consulting" as punishment  Smile

I one paid $1700 for KL, LX & AM MEX-AMS-CDG / ZRH-MAD - MEX!

and there were two of them as I went with my brother. My dad definately wasn't happy for a couple of months.

But that was because we looked up for the tickets almost 2 weeks before the trip!

Very good ticket price I think, considering I only booked it 4 or so weeks before I left.

While working in BOS, I ticketed a woman going to SYD roundtrip in first class for a little under $15,000 US. The most I personally have paid is $700 ow BOS to CLT in F on US.

One way:
£5030 / $9300 / 7360 Euros for LHR-JFK on Concorde in September 2002.

Return:
LHR-LAX-LHR in BA F about five/six years ago. Of the routes I've flown in paid F LAX is the most expensive and while I cannot remember the price of the ticket today it is around £5600/$9800.

I pride myself on getting cheap fares so my highest is a pittyful (compared to some) £330 to Air Canada for LHR-YHZ-YUL-YYZ-LAX-PDX-YVR-YYC-LHR. I'm still proud of myself as I managed to squeeze plenty of sectors in for my buck. This was of course in January. I am pretty much grounded during summer due to high fares  Sad

I think the most expensive by mile must be my commutes between DTW-CVG and DTW-LEX.

These tickets are about USD700. apiece, or about USD 3.00 a mile!

£600 MAN-LHR-HKG-MEL / SYD-HKG-LHR-MAN with CX in 2003 . Booked through Trailfinders. I had psyched myself up to pay £850 as I was determined to fly on an airline that had PTVs (it does matter to me on such long flights!) . Went to the office to arrange everything and CX were having a 3 day sale! Just as well as the stay in MEL coincided (unintentionally) with the Formula 1 grand prix so hotel rooms were very expensive.

I thought it was a bargain

$11,000 for a round the world Star Alliance First Class ticket. SEA-NRT-SIN/DEL-FRA-PDX-SEA. (Although I didn't actually pay for it myself).

The most I've put on my own personal credit card is probably about $400.

I think $1000 at christmas is the most I personally paid. Though i have been on flights where my grandfather was paying that were about $1600. Otherwise, I use miles for expensive trips, and try to find the most expensive way to use the miles.

I flew AA F DAY-ZRH in F which would have cost $12000 but cost me a few fees, and I flew AA F LAX-NRT via DFW on miles and it would have cost about $16000 had I paid. I've also flown CO LAX-Germany in J (though domestic it was only Y) on miles and it would have cost about $4000.

Quoting Fbgdavidson (Reply 19):

LHR-LAX on an AA777 in F is a great experience. Don't knock the Flagship Suite until you've flown it, and the food and everything else in AA Flagship first is top notch.

The alternatives were BA or UA and both have inferior F suites to AA on these routes.

Just a tad under $400 for a flight ATL-LAS-DFW-ATL. Changed from an ATL-DFW-LAS leg to an ATL-LAS flight (got me into LAS about an hour and 15 minutes earlier), which (excluding the $50 change fee) only cost me $8.90 more than the original booking. I made the change fee back when I switched hotel bookings.

I could have found a cheaper fare, but my travel days were set (Friday and Sunday), so I couldn't have flown out on a Thursday or returned on a Monday.

From what I've read that is certainly debatable (and the seat isn't the only aspect of a First Class service IMO) but I guess my point was more towards why the guy paid so much for AA F. I've paid (and later refunded) LHR-SIN-MEL-SIN-LHR in fully refundable BA First and it was only £7300. Of course this is a different route and I understand LAX is an expensive route on most carriers (I've seen BA fares in the past of over £10,000 return although it certainly isn't the case anymore) but £12k seems more than excessive and I find it hard to see why this guy paid so through the nose for AA, either his TA is a bozo or it wasn't booked as a through itinerary.

Most I ever paid for a ticket was about $1800 CDN back in December 2001. Routing was DUS-FRA-YYC-YLW and returning YLW-YVR-YYZ-FRA-DUS with LH and AC. Cheapest I ever paid for a long haul flight was back in February 2000 where I paid about $250 CDN from DUS-FRA-YVR and return with LH. What can I say, I´m a cheapskate ...  Wink

The most expensive ticket I ever bought cost 1100 Euros on EK routing IST-DXB-MLE-DXB-IST (4 days in DXB and 7 days in MLE). This was in Business Class... I paid for my partner's flights too (so 2200 Euros total) and he paid for the hotels (Ritz Carlton in DXB and Four Seasons in MLE.. you figure  Wink ).

The best bargain I ever had was 400 USD for IST-FRA-MIA-FRA-IST on LH. This was back in 2001.

P.S: The system doesn't show MLE. Its Male in Male airport in Maldives.

Nothing terribly high, but for the length of the flight, was a little steep, ICN-NRT-ICN on UA economy for $550. But the free upgrade to Business on the flight to Narita helped out a lot!
For only $150 more, I did NRT-ORD-NRT on AA First and Business....kinda makes that $550 UA r/t more expensive.
Ok, wait for the RJ to pass, cleared to push tail south Mike, and you're cleared to spin #2 in the push.

My company paid USD$8,600 on QF (LAX-SYD) + $420 on DL (ATL-LAX) for a grand total of $9,020 r/t both in business.

Another expensive one I remember was a walk-up fare from LIT-ATL-CDG-ATL that our company shelled out $7,100 if I recall correctly.

Recently, have been paying some outrageous fares on DL domestically in coach, GSP-CVG-STL-ATL-GSP.......$1,960.00

There's more if could recall them. One does come to mind though it is the opposite.

About 1-1/2 years ago a one way coach ticket between SMF-PDX.....$39.70 on a Q400. That was the cheapest ticket I remember.

Interestnng thread.

I paid around 2000 dollars for a trip from Oslo, Norway to Brisbane, Australia via Copenhagen and Singapore a few years ago. Unfortunately some events home in Norway forced me to cancel the trip during my three-day stopover in Singapore. Since I did not get any money back, I basically paid 2000 dollars for a trip to Singapore. A shame since a a trip from Norway to Singapore and back normally costs only half of that!
