What Would You Do With Personal 737NG?

Wed Jun 28, 2006 1:12 pm

Okay, I responded to the thread "What would Gol do with 101 737NGs," thinking it was a personal question, but of course it was not. So now here's the personal question. If any of you had a personal 737NG or any 737 aircraft for that matter, what would you do with it?

See my 2nd to last post on that other thread to see what my thought would be regarding a flying RV  Smile

Have fun with this one!!!!

Surely I'd configure them i all Business class seats, and start flying GRU/MIA under the name of "Glamour Air" - Surely, a LOT of brazilians that used to fly TAM, RG, AA or UA business class would change for my all C-class 737NG!

The NG series would not matter to me ... 600, 700, 800, or 900 ... it's all good!

Put 737-type 1st class seating all the way through, so I can take my family, friends or business partners in style. Then make it available to lease out when I'm not using it. I'm sure there are corporations and indiviuals who could lease a ride every now and then.

It's gotta have winglets, satcoms, wifi, and a digital-based entertainment system. Plus extra fuel tanks, 1 in each cargo hold.

If I had the money to operate it, I would use it for personal transportation. I'd install an all-business type interior and take my friends & family on holidays. When I don't need it, I would use it for charter flights.

However, since I don't have the money to operate it, I would just make it my home. Some quick calculations show that the 737-700 has a floor area of about 100 square meters, that's a decent sized appartment and a quite comfortable as well. You have airconditioning, decent lighting and a nice cellar for storage. Oh and I would modify the cockpit so I can play flight simulator...  Smile

The 737 is one of the best moneymakers there are in the aviation world. With an part 121 certificate, I'd definitely cram as many seats as I can in there and find a nice juicy route to operate it on. Probably something in the Caribbean from south Florida, Like Dominican Republic, or Haiti where AA enjoys an outrageous monopoly and make TONS of money by charging you 400 bucks for a 1 and 1/2 hour flight with NO service.

Of course they'd try to run me out of business with a few low blows like they always do with competition on the Central American and Caribbean market.

Oh man, life is hard...  cry

I would sell it also. I think I could settle flying BA first class for the rest of my life, instead of on the NG.

Think of all the interest you could get by investing the money from the sale.

I would immediately sell it (who has $$$ to operate it?) and buy myself very nice house and say a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft (maybe Socata TBM 850 if I wanted more speed) since I could fly it to really small airports. That would be an aircraft completely sufficient for my needs to fly in North America. If I wanted to fly overseas I would buy a 1-st class ticket on a commerical airline.

1- did I buy it, or was a gift....
2- brand new from production...or used..

If it was a gift, brand new from the factory, I lease it to someone. Or sell it and buy a good old smokin' 727.....

If i bought it myself, in any condition, I'd ask myself why. For the price I could have picked up a 727 and have some pocket change....

I'd allow NetJets/Executive Jet or a reputable charter operator (Executive Fliteways, Clay Lacy Aviation, etc.) to operate it as charter, and collect the income. Many people who own corporate jets earn an income doing so.

I would let it be used for research. I would let students in different university programs use it for research. Many programs would really benefit from having a state of the art jet to use. You can do a lot of experiments, and with some grant money, some impressive research could be done.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

As I am a student from the USA studying in London (to be a research doctor in craniofacial deformities), I cannot afford a 737 (much less the 747SP I really would love to have)!

However, if I got my BBJ as a gift (from where?), I would DEFINITELY make a lot of use of it!

Being an American student studying in England, I would use it for my frequent, regular transatlantic trips between my home airport (FWA, Fort Wayne, IN) and London--to go home for Christmas and summer each year (when I'm not here in London doing summer research!). The trips between London and Fort Wayne, IN, would be nonstop!

I have lots of family and friends at home in America who would love to come visit me here in London; my private 737 would really facilitate that!

My mother has dreamed of coming over to visit me in London--what better way for her to come over than in my private 737 BBJ?

When my 737 wasn't being used to transport me (or Mom, etc) back and forth between London and Fort Wayne, IN, I would rent it out as a charter airliner and make big bucks with it! With all the income from renting it out, I could pay off my huge student loans and pay for the rest of my education in England!

Really, my jet would be for a worthy cause--transporting me back and forth to England to complete my education to become a craniofacial research doctor to help others with similar craniofacial disorders to mine!

Doesn't hurt to dream, does it? Anyone have a spare 737 BBJ?

I'd like a -200 or a -600 series...

the -200 I'd paint up in CP Air's multimark scheme (the orange and red for those not familiar with the term "multimark")... then have the interior redone to period colours on the inside, and put it on display at YQL (even though they didnt fly there)

the -600 I'd lease to Westjet for ridiculously low lease rates, on the condition that they:
- paint it in a reverse colourscheme
- allow ten seats to be used for friends and family on ANY flight they have...
- fly a YWG-YQR-YQL-YVR circuit with it, & finally
- equip it with winglets!

Now, with your brand new Private Jet, you make a stop in BIQ. Ride "Petit Train de La Rhune".

After that, you invite me to board and head up to ANC. After 2 or 4 weeks there, you give me a lift to South West, maybe Sequoia National Park. Sounds great for me.

Of course, I will only board if my PTV is hudge, and if the is tons a gorgeous FA Big grin

That said, going back to initial topic, I will only keep it if it comes with a load of $ (well, maybe $100 million). With that, I will spend the rest of my life worldwide. After some years, I will try to sell it at a profit and buy something more confortable for my (new) way of life. Maybe an A340-600 or something like that Big grin

Sell it, buy a T38 Talon and use the extra money for some petrol. When I ran out of gas money, I'd park it in my driveway and watch all of the H2 drivers be green with envy. But then I'd have to build a blast fence and light the burners every once in a while...just for fun.

I've thought what would I do with a plane many times and basically if money is not an issues meaning I have a friend with a deep pocket. Since you mention 737NG this would be in flying condition. Another thought is what if I turned it into a flying school where school districts have field trips where kids learn about aviation from the air. I would like to paint the plane just like a yellow school bus. This could teach geography and many other things.

If it were for real, I'd sell it and invest the proceeds from the sale. But since it's too good to be true, I'd be very civic-hearted and generous, and trade it in for six (or however many it would get) PZL Mielec Bryza 1B or CASA C-212-400 or Reims Sudmar maritime patrol aircraft, then donate those to the PAF which badly need them.  Smile My first idea was to donate it for Government use, but our officials would not run out of excuses to turn ostensibly legitimate trips to junkets and shopping sprees!  thumbsdown   pessimist
