Wal*Mart Air!

Tue Jul 04, 2006 6:35 am

Just thinking, if say for some reason Wal*Mart lost it's brain and began an airline, or an airline was modeled after Wally World. What do you think it would be like??

LOL, the first thing that popped into my head is the famous 80-year-old greeters at the door when you go to check in.

Can you put wings on a double-wide and make it fly? Seriously, I can only shutter to think what such an airline would look like.

You and I must shop at different Wal Marts. If it was modeled after the one in my town, the aircraft would be a total mess and you couldn't find anyone to give you service, good or bad!

I wonder if you had an issue with your schedule, or had to cancel your trip; could you simply return your ticket and get a full refund?

My only concern would be the passengers. I do enough Wal Mart shopping and pray I don't have to fly with the same people. My brother and I have a running joke on each of our visits about the shoppers. Wally World is the only place I know you can be in Automotive and find a steak or chicken on the rack thanks to one of their shoppers. I hope Wally Air never happenes!

The pilots would be paid the federal minimum wage (what is it like $5.15/hr?). They wouldn't be allowed to be in a union. The cabin crew would have the total education of a 6th grader. The ground crew would be illegals. The passengers wouldn't be able to fly on the airline because they couldn't afford the tickets. They would have a hub in every city (and most would be several hubs per city). The only aircraft they could fly would be an A380 so they could fit a McDonald's, eye center, hair salon, photo studio, and children's arcade onboard. And they would demand Airbus sell them the A380 for 10 million dollars.

No, they would not have business class, it would cost too much!

All of the aircraft would be solid white with blue/grey cheat lines and a blue star on the tail and blue, grey and white interiors.
All of the flight crew would wear name tags and those jackets like at the stores.
All staff would be non-union. They would contract out all
Check in staff would all by over 65 and give the kids smiley stickers.
All of the aircraft would have to a MD or Boeing, made in P.R. China.
Snacks and beverages, including Wal Mart brands would be available for purchase, but at very cheap prices.
Plastic bags would be acceptable as luggage.
The hub would be Northwest Arkansas Regional airport and service would include several small cities mainly in the south.
Reading material would be the latest Wal Mart ads.
They would offer the most consistantly cheap prices, due to there excellent ability to do yeild management (Wal Mart has after the US Government, the largest computer capacity).

Actually, Wal Mart does/did have an airline-type like service. I forgot where I read it at, but I remember reading about it awhile back. Apparently Sam Walton (I think that is his name) was an aviation enthusiast, and started up the airline using lears. I remember reading how it was stocked with Wal Mart goods. Wish I could provide you more information, but my memory...well sucks.

Good grief, lol. I can imagine the paint scheme that simple blue and white with a big yellow smiley (roll-back guy) on the tail with their FA's wearing those blue smocks and Sam's soda served on board (yes, even giving their passengers the entire can). I am guessing it would be similiar to what Hooter's was like while they were doing scheduled service. Scary.

Their aircraft would be branded as Boeing and manufactured in America, yet actually manufactured by small children at an undisclosed location in Asia. This would be vehemently defended for a few years, then management would admit to flying non American built airplanes.

Yeah, they busted several WalMarts in Michigan for employing illegals.

FlyUSCG,

Yes, both WalMart, or at least subcontractors who supply labor for WM have been busted for employing Mexican illegals (in, I think Cal, Mass, N.J and other states). I was just attempting humor with the Alaska ref. There have been union complaints that AS has replaced unionized ground crews with subcontracted folks, some of whom are gangbangers (or so is claimed after graffiti in the cargo-holds was said to be gang symbols) and others who may or may not be illegals.

That'd be a bitch on boarding, especially since most of the greeters I see are in wheelchairs, might get in the way abit.

Here's a thought, instead of boarding by coach and first class, they could board by 10 carry on items or less, more than 10 carry on items (and who here would honestly check their bag with WallyWorld Air?)
