Which Airline Affiliated Credit Card Do You Have?

Tue Jul 04, 2006 6:24 pm

Do you have an airline credit card which earns you miles for a certain airline? I was thinking about applying for a British Airways Diners Club card, as I travel a lot on BA and One World partners. They Give you 5000 miles if you get a card and 1 mile for every Euro spent, but 1.5 miles for every Euro spent on BA or partner airlines.
Do you think its worth it?
I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.

The evaluation of earning miles via a Credit Card depends on how many Euros you will be spending per year (= miles accrued), the costs for the Credit Card per year (fixed fees + interest rates if applicable) and the benefits that will come from it (= miles turned into flights; possibly insurances included in Credit Card).

if you have to pay high yearly fees, high interest rates and get only poor rewards (= many miles needed; low availability of seats) it might be not a viable thing.
If OTOH you are spending lots of Euros via your CC (maybe including business travel), pay no interest rates (as you level your due every months = that´s the way many CC's operate in Germany) and are in a good FF-program, then it will be a wise thing to do.

Hi,

I do have an AirFrance KLM Amex gold. It gives me 1 statut mile per €, or 1.4 statut miles per € with AirFrance and Hertz.

It's not outstanding since you have to spend 20k € to win a domestic/europe return ticket.

That said, the AMEX comes with pretty good insurance (ski, travel, lost lugguages, delays, ...) It could also help to achive an Elite Statut with Skyteam.

I'm happy with this card and try to use it as soon as possible. Unfortunatelly, AMEX is not very popular in France, due to a big commision rate in comparaison with VISA and MasterCard. So I also have a VISA Premier to buy ... some food for example Big grin

I do recommend it: you have a bonus miles at sign up (I think it's 3000). If you are a FF, it's also a good way to pack extra miles.

It costs me 110€ per year witch is on average the price for the VISA Premier.

My CC is connected to my SA Voyager account. Thus far I have earned 105958 miles via my CC, which is not too shabby.

I have a Southwest Airline's Visa through Chase. Since I buy for a group of people, the Rapid Rewards I acquire are very helpful to us economically.

If you can avoid the monthly finance charge by keeping your balance as close to zero as possible, then it's a great way to rack up miles.

NW worldperks Visa Platinum Card and NW world perks check card from US Bank. 1 mile per 1 buck spent, and up to 15 miles per dollar at certain retailers. I used to have a UA mileage plus card, until Chase took it over.

The WN card is worthless, can't get 1/100th the places that other airline cards can.

I have an Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card and an Alaska Airlines Visa debit card.

On the Visa Signature credit card, I get 1 mile for every dollar spent, 2 miles for every dollar spent with Alaska Airlines, and 6 miles for every dollar spent at a whole list of restaurants, hotels, and car rental firms. I also get a $50 companion ticket each year, 2 Board Room passes, 2000 bonus miles each year, a personalized complimentary concierge service, and discounts from various places as notified via email from time to time.

The debit card gives me 1 miles for every 2 dollars spent, 1 mile for every dollar spent with Alaska Airlines. That's pretty much it, but seeing as I pay all my bills and do most of my regular shopping using my debit card, I pull in about 1500 miles per month.

Delta SkyMiles Platinum from American Express. Minimum 1 mile per dollar spent. In most situations you get double miles, and they have promotions where you can get 3 miles to the dollar, 10 miles to the dollar, etc. Additionally, if you spend $25,000 or more in a year you get 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles.

My mum (I don't have a credit card), has a National Australia Bank Velocity creit card, which is DJ. She earns points by shopping and gets more if she uses them on DJ's partners. Unfortunately when you redeem the points you still have to pay the taxes and surcharges which make up most of the fare.

I have four - Continental (Chase), American (Citibank), JetBlue (Amex), and United (Chase again, through a merger)

I use whichever one I'm trying to concentrate miles on, but really like the CO card, with the 5% fare savings (might be for a limited time, though)

I have platinum Visa and Mastercard with Banco santander, I get 1 mile per USD spent, and in some special ocassions, double milleage (like mothers day, fathers day, etc). Actually, I've earned a lot of points with AV that way, and with their codeshare with DL and AF, you can use them to anywhere destination you want (just sounded like a tv commercial.....). I like it and i aprreciate the miles for using the card, most of all, bc I pay almost everything with it, and since i don't take any deferred payments, don't pay any interests.

I'm an Aeroplan whore...so I have both the CIBC Aerogold Visa, and the American Express Aeroplan Plus Gold card...I prefer the AMEX because I get 1.25 miles for every $1 once I hit 10,000 in spending....and since I put my tutition on my card....I'll hit it this fall! Sadly, not everywhere takes AMEX!

Copied from my reply on a similar thread:

Holy crap, go with the Chase (UA) Card! The new Choices program is brilliant and the annual fee (actually $65) is still cheaper than the DL Amex, IIRC. Various promotions waiving the annual fee for the first year and a 17,500 mile bonus sweeten the pot.

What Chase doesn't advertise too much is the option to upgrade to a Chase/UA Mileage Plus Platinum Visa. Yes, it costs $165 a year but automatically deposits 5,000 elite miles into your account each year, gives you a free companion ticket each year, and gives you mileage bonuses per purchase:

- United tickets and travel: 3 miles/$1
- Gas, groceries, food: 2 miles/$1
- Everything else: 1 mile/$1

I have the Delta SkyPoints credit card from American Express. It works kind of like UA's Choices program, where you can use points for a percentage off Delta fares. If you prefer, you can convert the SkyPoints to SkyMiles on a 1 for 1 basis. It only has an annual fee of $49, and you get the Always Double Points at grocery and drug stores. I'm extremely pleased with it. Unless you are a big spender and would use the added benefits of the Platinum card, it's probably the best offering from AMEX.

Let's see.

I don't use credit cards anymore. Only cash. (its Japan)
We use my wife's card (I pay for it). It is NH Visa.
We are considering an NW card but fee is just annoying to us. NW serves us best.
Parents are on UA Mileage plus Visa (like some amazing level..used it to rebuild a turn of the century house on the Mississippi near Red Wing MN)
Brother is NW platinum visa (Paid his mortgage with it, then paid the bill with cash over 3 months)
Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Air Berlin Mastercard.
Free for Top Bonus Gold members, you get 10000 Miles for applying and 1 mile per Euro spent (2 miles on Air Berlin purchases).

Considering that a domestic flight costs 7500 miles, a flight everywhere in Europe 12500 and Egypt/Maroc/Turkey 20000 miles, and that there are no blackout days and no tax/fees to pay, this is definetely good value for money...

I also like the free exit-seat reservation possibility and the fact that gold members get 25% more miles... Love this FF-Programme

Only thing is that you can only fly Europe...
