Do You Have One FF Account, Or Multiples?

Thu Jul 06, 2006 9:06 pm

Hey all a couple of months ago I was listening to Mike and Mike in the Morning when an interesting topic came up. Mike Goelic said he had about 20 different brackets while Mike Greenberg only had one. I guess the idea behind it is loyalty, so are you loyal to one airline and it's FF plan and believe that's how it should be? Or are you on multiple plans and believe that loyalty to one airline is not as popular today and explain you reasoning?

Me, I am a loyal B6 customer, anywhere they fly I fly too. I use them for college and pleasure and when on other airlines with the family do not enjoy the fact that I have to fly without my BlueChips. My reasoning is that while B6 has limited international destinations it allows me to go to alot of places from home which is JFK, and travel to most cities in America. You can't beat that and that I really do enjoy most of their service. While at JAX AA, or DL is more reasonable to travel on especially because of their respected MIA and ATL hubs are close, I still think its unfair to change loyalties because of the fact I already enrolled in B6's TrueBlue account and have X number of points.

What's you take on it everyone?

That would be the Gothic spelling I guess.....actually spelled "Golic"!

OnePass is my 1 and only FF account with CO. Maybe other programs offer more in certain areas and less in others but OnePass keeps getting recognition and I am quite happy with it and the perks.

I'm a member of six different FFP programs.

I'm currently only active in one. All my points I'm accruing flying *A metal are being shunted to my Air Canada Aeroplan account.

I might return to active status with my Midwest Miles account at some point as well, as I enjoy flying them.

If I come back to flying SkyTeam metal, I'll definitely be using my CO OnePass account to accrue the miles on.

UA and AA

The AA account is carried over from TWA.

I'm AS only, but with their points partnerships on various airlines, I can accrue or spend points quite easily anywhere in the world. They're pretty generous with their benefits, and I reached MVP level pretty easily - just 12 months after signing up. I reached MVP Gold status earlier this year.

As a United States flier, it makes sense for me to consolidate miles into one account for each alliance. Therefore I have a NW account for my skyteam miles (where most of my flying goes to... can't beat skyteam in the USA), US for star, and AA for Oneworld

Two: AA & LH.

While I didn't choose either of them, they happen to serve the destinations I need. Though lately, I have used my LH account when flying US.

I have found myself flying DL on occasion now, but haven't signed up yet.

For me it's not about loyalty, but about which airline(s) get(s) me to where I need to go.

NW for skyteam, once DL and CO joined I dropped them, DL and CO were not as good as Worldperks, and since my flying is mostly out of a NW station only I get more from NW with worldperks.

UA for star alliance, have the most miles with UA thanks to a business, but have not flown UA in over a year.

SkyMiles for SkyTeam
MileagePlus for Star
AAdvantage for oneworld

I personally would also look at which one has the better credit cards also. The offerings from American Express for SkyMiles are top notch.

QF, UA and Asia Miles. They were all free so i just signed up. I don't really fly enough to get any points and now Air NZ has gone budget on giving out FF points so I might end up flying Oneworld more in the future.

I hold multiple FF accounts. It seems a simpler process of ticketing & boarding airlines particularly on Int'l trips when the airline already has your profile. Though I must admit I hate all the junk mail that comes with these even though I supposedly opt 'Out' of the promotionals.

I try to fly mostly with Star Alliance carriers, since I have UA Mileage Plus. UA is not important for me anymore, since I moved to New Zealand. In most cases, a single carrier (even Air NZ) is not helping me, and thus I am very grateful for Star Alliance - they get me almost everywhere. Sometimes it is not my choice (if somebody else pays for my flights), or other carriers are significantly cheaper, or have much better connections. Thus I also have QF for OneWorld, and DL for SkyTeam. But again, most of the times I am happy with Star...

I don't really see the point in having more than one card per alliance, so I have;

SkyTeam - Flying Blue (very loyal).
Star Alliance - BMI Diamond Club.
One World - Iberia Plus.

I don't have much on the latter two, but have nearly got myself up to Gold level so far this year on Flying Blue.

I have loads, a lot of which are defunct, but still. I tend to use one card per Alliance:

Oneworld - AA (Gold)
Skyteam - DL
Star - LH

Also got BD (used to be my *A card before BD started to suck a bit, I'm going to spend the miles and ditch it), CO (don't use it really), KL (defunct), QF (was Blue, but switched to AA when I moved from OZ to Europe), BA (only for the self-service check-in, I refuse to collect miles on it on principle), US, UA - I had TW but that got transferred to my AA account.

I'm active in 3 accounts: DL (Silver Medallion), US (Silver Preferred) and AA (base member)...takes care of the big 3 alliances, which is what I fly on 99.9% of the time.

I'm also a member of CO, NW, FL, UA, BA, AC, QF and was a member of HP, but I have very minimal balances of miles in each (each has something, but it's less than 1000). I also have an Amtrak account for my occasional trips on the train, although when I take Acela, I put the miles on my OnePass account.

I'm a fairly loyal B6 customer, but always have a network-carrier I'm concentrating on for places B6 can't take me, and for the holidays when B6 tends to get a little pricey. Right now my network carrier is CO, since I have enough miles on AA for my next trip to Australia and CO had good routings and fares for my trip to Belize last week and England (Bristol) in September.

So here's what I have:
AA - 153k
CO - 30k, 9k flying booked for Sept
B6 - 43 points, one TruePass available
FL - 1.5 credits
DL - 7k
NW - 14k
UA - 13k
US - 2k

I get more miles from credit card use than actual flying - right now, almost all my credit card use is going on my CO card, except a few bills still going to the AA card that I need to switch. Once I have my CO account up to 50k, I'll switch my CC use to my UA card long enough to get that account to at least 25k for a saver ticket, then back to B6. Also have an old BA account I haven't used since my business travel stopped back in 2003 - unless I start travelling for business again that account will just sit empty.

I have three FF accounts (one for every big alliance):

- AF/KL Flying Blue Silver (close to 95.000 miles on the account)
- LH Miles&More Basic (a bit over 65.000 miles on the account)
- AAdvantage Basic (12.000 miles on the account I think, will check it later)

Well, I can't speak on elite status, since I don't have one, but listing the accounts and miles gives some insight into different members' strategies and how much weight people put on FF miles versus fares, non-stop vs connecting, etc.

I have a few, because Swissair kept switching alliances and codeshares, and LX did the same thing until they joined Star Alliance. I have cards with CO, DL, AA (from the old TWA and from SR), OA, and now Star Alliance.

We also rack up loads of miles with my mom and dad's credit cards, which give us loads of miles when we use them. But we can use those anywhere, so they're not really FF cards.

I am a member of pretty much every airline that has a free membership. now you can call me strange, but some of them were because of points.com other were because I wanted to know some more things, but I couldn't with out becoming a partner.
my main FF cards are
AS (main)
QF
NZ
UA (us to put my NZ point on there until I got a FF membership with NZ)
I will start to use mexicana for its partners.

Because of LX and KL having ended their stand-alone programmes, I now have:

- Executive Club for Oneworld
- Miles & More and Eurobonus for Star Alliance (Eurobonus only used where M&M does not work)
- Flying Blue and OnePass for Skyteam (I am nowadays mainly using OnePass)

All of them have between 30k and 60k at the moment.

Additionally, I am a member of a couple of non-alliance FFP like Air Berlin TopBonus and Hapagfly Bluemiles, but I only use them infrequently as I tend to travel mostly with the above three alliances or low cost airlines without a FFP.

I'm in three.

In order by miles accrued:

1. Northwest WorldPerks (About 16K)
2. US Airways Dividend Miles (formerly America West FlightFund) (About 8K)
3. Frontier EarlyReturns (1780)

And if AA remains the cheapest by $70 dollars on a round-trip PHX-MSP I'm going to take in late October (and book around August 20), then I'll join AAdvantage, even though I wasn't originally planning to. $70 isn't small enough to get me to stick with NW just for the miles. But as for now I'm just in those three.

NWA Worldperks
United Mileage Plus

That's it... I like the Star Alliance members better althought i absolutely love Air France. Just because France is one of my favorite countries and the FA's are just gorgeous (talking about females of course).

BTW, long time reader, first time poster. I finally decided to go First Class at a.net. First post. Great site and I aboslutely love the pictures on this wonderful site.
