Your Views On Excel Airlines

Tue Jul 11, 2006 5:42 pm

Hi Gang

I have asked this before so I know its a rerun of the previous thread (it was ages ago)....Only the Holiday is getting nearer!

We fly in 3 weeks to Kalamata from Nottingham with Excel and I have been on the net looking at references to Excels performance etc. I can find nothing but criticism's about them and even worse, delays of up to two days. Is there anyone on here that can verify these examples or at least give me something good about them ! Please !!!

I flew with Excel last year Manchester-Faro, although we booked with Excel we flew on an Air Atlanta Icelandic 747-200. On the way out there were no delays whatsoever, on the way home we had a delay of 45 minutes which wasn't too hard to handle.
Overall I think Excel has very mixed views and opinions and each experience with Excel is going to be different, I hope your experience with Excel is a good one as there is nothing really wrong with the service they offer in my opinion.
Hope that helped.

People say very bad things about them but when they first started out I flew them to Chambery from Manchester on a ski charter flight. The aircraft was clean and excellent service was provided.

Not sure how they are now, unfotunately I think they are plagued with an unreliable batch of Boeings

I beleive the EMA aircraft is the one that had bad delays last year with a new name...They are supposed to have two aircraft as spares but I think they will have used them for other things by now. You cannot have aircraft littered around waiting for a problem it is toooo expensive. Also most of the Midlands absed aircraft are eithe Air malta or some other airline not actually Excel itself.Look forward to a trip report

I used to work for them so I guess I'd be biased  Wink

EMA should be on a UKJet Mad Dog but then again aircraft are always switching around now.

If you are on a 737-800 then you should have a really good flight, they are one of the best airlines when you fly on an Excel operated 738, its the leased in aircraft (either from other operators or sister airlines) which are the problem, including

737-400 (thats what I worked on and they were dogs)
and now the 747s

Still if you are on someone elses aircraft wether it be KM, Viking or UKJet then I don't know what to say.

Have a nice trip anyway  Smile

I've never flown on Excel, but I did watch Trolley Dollies on Living TV, whihc followed the Cabin Crew on Excel everywhere they went. It seemed to me that the Long Haul flights tended to be less efficient than the short haul flights. It actually looked quite enjoyable to be on some of the short haul flights. The cabin crew service looks good though on any flight. Unless they were just doing that for the cameras. I guess you can never tell how a flight is going to go unless you're on it  smile .
