What Is The A.Net Name For The 748?

Thu Jul 13, 2006 10:50 am

There have been discussions about newspapers using the name "superjumbo" for the 380, and the 748. I would call it the generic name for the VLA group.
We had quite a go around to decide on Whalejet for the A380, so what is the "slang" name for the B748 ? I don't have a good idea to submit, and need the creative minds of A.net to help "give it a go".  chat
I thought about using "3B" for Boeing Big Boy, (short to type), but should it also be an animal ?
Its big and old : so would Mastodon work ? Because it's now extinct maybe that's not a good omen for the future.  confused
This will give the A-bus fans a chance to even out the Whalejet dust-up.  box

Where I worked, most people referred to the 747 as a "lump", for obvious reasons. I would guess the new version of the 747 would continue that tradition, should UA decide to buy it. The 737 was called a "guppy".

I don't think A.net has come up with an appropriate nickname as of yet.  Wink

Crotch Rocket
Lumpy Liner
The Humpiest
The plane that "eight" more
The Hippo Jet
Brontosaurus

The 747 has always been known as the jumbo jet. I will refer to the 748 as a jumbo jet as well.

I like your screen name, I agree on jumbo for the 747 ,but I have seen that used for the WhaleJet in some newspapers. That's why I thought we should have something new. Got a smile from Lumpy Liner

Interesting to note that in the U.K(Scotland) that the 747's were also called 'lumps',but the 737's were called 'piggies'!!Can't remember why tho'!
