CO And NW First Class

Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:55 pm

Heya,

Have just booked an award ticket using my worldperks points and am flying CO first class from LAS to IAH and then NW on the return from IAH via MSP to SFO.

CO is on a 757 while NW is the 319 and 757.

Which is a better service? Am I entitled to use a lounge in MSP and if so, whats it like?

Thanks

Flying first class you might get the club, im not 100% sure. Looks like maybe by the time you fly NW will have the improved meal service in FC.

I like CO's 757 F/C for room compared to NW's F/C in any aircraft. And sadly, I like CO much better than NW. You should enjoy both flights because it is First, but on your way back you may be slightly disappointed.

As per the clubs, unless you have membership to either a presidents club, worldclub, or crown room club, you will have to pay. Your first class seat will not get you into the clubs. But, iirc you can purchase a day pass or a trial pass, ask when you get there.

As has been said a F ticket does not get you into the Clubs (President's or World.) You can pay for a day or if you have a Platinum AMEX (not the Platinum SkyMiles for DL) you can get access to the club.

You'll like the CO flight a little better for comfort and you should get some sort of meal.

At that time I was a NW gold elite. Now i fly CO. Unfortunately, I am not elite on CO, so it kind of sucks.

Fair enough. Your elite status wouldn't tranfer over? Could you wrangle/make a deal or something with OnePass?

NW and CO have a reciprocal elite and upgrade policy. I'm a silver elite on NW, but I've flown CO and been upgraded a couple times, most recently on an EWR-MHT flight.

That was two years ago. I haven't done much in the way of flying. But yes, it did transfer at the time.

NW's first is nothing special...i take it b/c of the room compared to coach when I can't fly Midwest. NW's first is usually decidedly cheaper than the others, at least from MSN, and I can get a first-class seat out of MSN, whereas the others all fly RJ's in.

Like XJR, though, I'm switching as much flying as possible to CO, in part b/c of what I've heard from seasoned travellers on here, as well as ratings (some new ones out in Aviation Week). I've got 3 flights coming up on CO, 2 domestic and 1 international. As I've only flown CO Express in the last few years, I'll be very curious to see how their mainline service is. It's causing a gap in my Elite status, but I'll probably have that re-earned by next year. I think Elite is overrated, anyway.

NW will now have the new meals in place, so you might have a good meal at least, a real glass, and plenty of leg room, the only thing that CO has more... a tv with tv show re-runs.
